Can Fort Wilderness Cabins sleep 4 adults comfortably?

We are planning a trip for late Jan. 2006 for myself, DW, 2 DS (6 and 2) and my mother and her husband. I keep reading that the cabins have a "murphy bed." Is this a comfortable bed for 2 adults? Can anyone tell me if there is enough room for 6 people for a long (8 night stay)?

Up until this point we've been considering 2 rooms at POP, but the cabins might be a nice change, if they are comfortable for 6. Thanks,

Bryan

It's doable, it might be a tad *cozy*, but totally do-able.

The back bedroom has a full size bed, and twin bunks. There is one bathroom, then the kitchen/eating area.

The Murphy bed pulls out of the wall, and was comfortable enough. (I used it one night on our last stay as both DS AND DH were snoring up a storm :rotfl: .

You'll have to stagger showering, etc, but there is plenty of room, and there is a deck that runs practically the entire length of the cabin, so the boys can play outside as well.

DH and I used the murphy bed and it was quite comfortable.....and we'reboth pretty picky about mattresses. I'd definitely stay there again.

Well...I have stayed at the FW Cabins 3 times and I would have to say..it all depends. If you sleep comfortably with your SO in a double bed, then I'd say fine. I was NOT comfortable in the murphy bed. We do sleep in a queen bed OK together, but the murphy bed was a bit too much closeness IMHO. Not only that, you have the tendency to roll to the center of the bed, which can only lead to being sweaty all night or another baby. :goodvibes

You may want to price out two rooms at POR or a value resort. I have found that they are within a few dollars of each and you get 4 beds with 2 bathrooms.

Doable? Yes.

Preferable? Not so sure.

Something that my mother would consider is the fact that everyone will have to share one bathroom vs. having 2 with the POP rooms. Even though I'm not fond of POP, I KNOW my mother & father would prefer to have their own bath vs. sharing one or walking/riding to a comfort station for extra showers/toilets.

The ONLY complaint about our 1-night stay at POP was the noise. DH & DD do not wear earplugs at night like I do, and they said the walls were thin because they heard EVERYTHING going on outside our room (toilets flushing, kids crying, walking/running overhead & outside the door, etc.). Otherwise, the room itself was fine. It IS a value resort, and I think it's a great choice compared to others in it's category. Value resorts are not my thing, but if it meant not getting to go to Disney and being on Disney property, I'd opt to stay there again.

I did not go to the food court or in the Lobby at all (DH checked us in). I would also wager that the bus transportation is better (faster) at POP too.

I think the Ft. Wilderness Cabins would be a great place to stay if it was just you and your wife & kids. I'd like to try it myself some day.

You could get a room at the Poly. 2 queen beds (you & DW in one, mom & DH in the other), a daybed for your 6 year old and pack n play for 2 year old or rent a crib or toddler bed from someone offsite. The Poly rooms are very large and your transportation options from Poly are so much better. Also nicer pool and easier to walk to food options. At the cabins you can't really walk to stores or food.

And you may want to consider concierge for an extra $100. It would provide breakfast, milk & juice boxes for kids and lots of other great snacks. AND...the lounge is a great place to hang out if the room feels too small.

We are a party of 6 (me, DH, Dfriend, DD(6), DS(4) DD(2)) who do 1 room at the Poly concierge. It works great for us.

Ive slept on the Murphy bed for 7n and was fine with it.

The plus to the cabins is Kitchen in room with you and being able to have the kids play right outside.

No noisy neighbors, (unless you find armidillos and ducks noisy) noone running up and down the halls.

I like the cabins very much.

We are a family of 7 (DD under 3 doesn't count as a person- LOL) and have stayed at the Ft. W cabins 2 yrs in a row. We loved it!!!

We stayed one night - arriving at WDW early - at POP in 2 rooms. The rooms at POP are small, so even with 4 beds and two bathrooms it was cramped -especially with the pack-n-play.

Can you all fit in the cabin - definitely!
Keep in mind you will only have 1 bathroom. But for us the deck and full kitchen we awesome.

If you are comfortable staying in a sm. 1 bdroom appt with parents, then it should not be a problem.

After a few nights on that Murphy bed, my parents bought DVC! My Dad still jokes that it was worth it never to have to sleep on that thing again!

My parents are tall, heavy people and the Murphy Bed just isn't that big. The bedroom for our family was fine because my hubby took my son in the bed with him and my daughter slept above me in the bunks. We had a ball and the cabins are great, but that Murphy Bed tortured my parents.

If you opt for the cabin you might ask for Loop #2100. It is adjacent to a regular camping loop and therefore has a public bathroom ("Comfort Station") These offer showers, toilets and laundry and are air conditioned and spotless. Our menfolk showered there each morning to help things along.

Have fun! The cabins are really fun. My kids STILL talk about them, even when we have a beautiful DVC room!

This is one of those "it could go fantastically or it could be a major problem" questions and it's REALLY hard to work out which unless you know the individual group well. It is a bit of a gamble, but you will know your group better than any of us ever could.
As Colleen says the murphy bed is just a double so if your mom and her husband are big people they may find that sized bed a little cramped. One bathroom between you might also be an issue, your step father ( I'm assuming he's a step father) depending on how long he's been with your mom might feel a little uncomfortable sharing a cabin with the rest of the family.
IMHO if you're in any doubt to it's viability a much safer course of action is to go with 2 rooms at a resort of your budget.

The cabins offer an excellent choice to families with more than 2 kids, but they are a little bit of a gamble for 4 adults and 2 kids, it very much depends on how well you all get along and there's a whole heap of difference between an occassional Sunday lunch together and 7 days sharing one bathroom and limitted privacy.
