My 13yo dd is ready to have her long hair cut off to donate it to "Locks of Love" -- they use it to make wigs for kids who have lost their hair to chemo. Anyway, I thought it would be cool to have it done while we're at Disney, after reading about the barbershop in the MK -- I'm figuring they would do a good job of making her feel special. But -- so far, I've only heard of people getting their small children's hair cut there, plus a young man who says it's a great place for guys to go. I called the Disney general info line, and they confirmed that it's for ALL the guests, but has anyone had any experience there with women's haircuts? I just don't want her to spend the rest of the vacation with a bag over her head:( . Thanks in advance for any input!

When we were there several years ago, a "mom" was getting her haircut. I was curious to see what it looked like, so we hung around. She had it cut very short and it looked really nice.

I'm 23 and got mine cut there last March. My hair was pretty long at the time, though not long enough for Locks of Love, but it was definitely more than "a trim".

I was also wary when I went initially, considering the many people in line before me were either tots or male. I asked, however, and was told that they love to do "girls" too - in fact, the woman who cut mine (Mara? something along those lines...) said that she gets excited when she sees girls coming in because it's usually boys boys boys all day long!

Have confidence - I think it's a great idea, and one I've had myself (if I ever could get the patience to grow my hair long enough and then find the courage to cut that much at once)! They will certainly make her feel special, I have no doubt.

:D

My DD (15) has also expressed interest in having her hair cut and donated to the Locks of Love program. I had never though about having her hair cut at WDW. Of course even if WDW does not submit the donated hair, can't you collect it and send it in yourself?

Keep us posted if you find out anymore information!

You know, this sounds like fun! Maybe I'll do this on my next trip. How long do you usually have to wait in line? Is it by appointment? Should I make it a day event?

Thanks everyone! Maybe I'll get MY hair cut too! As far as Locks of Love, they have a website (www.locksoflove.org) that gives you all the guidelines -- minimum length of hair, where to send it, etc that's really helpful if you're considering it. I was just planning on bringing the braid home with me(hope no one searches the luggage!) and mailing it from there, but I could print out the form that you include with the donation before I leave, and mail it from the MK. Maybe we could get one of the characters to autograph the form first!

I was told on the WDW info line that the barbershop had no appts -- it was first-come, first-serve. We're probably going to do it fairly early in the day.

On our last trip, after getting DS's hair done(spiked, blue , w/pixie dust) we were waiting for the parade to start. A woman seated next to us thought it was the neatest thing. She was asking all about it and then decided she was going to check out the shop. Before the parade started she returned with the same hairstyle as DS! :teeth:
