Can DVC members keep my 3 year old for a day?

Kind of a long explanation to get to my question ...

We are DVC members but will be staying off site this year (we have a very small contract). My BIL and SIL just joined DVC and will be staying at Kidani in a studio with their two kids (ages 3 and 5) while we're there. We would like to take our older two kids (ages 7 and 9) to the water parks (on two separate days) while they babysit our 3 year old. This would be on a day when BIL and SIL's family don't go to the parks, so they're thinking they could take the kids to the AKL pool and playground that day. My question is, would my DS be allowed to swim at the AKL pools since he's not staying there? I'm aware of the rules for pool hopping and I don't want to do anything to get them in trouble, especially since they've never stayed at a DVC before.

Please don't flame me! I want to *avoid* problems, not create them. Thanks for any input, especially based on your experience!

I don't see how anyone would know that your 3 year old was not staying there. I would let him have fun with his cousins.

Now I am sure there will be both others that say rules blah, blah blah. It is one day for a few hours. We have brought guests to the pool many times without a single issue at several different pools.

Some pools require you to be a guest of that specific hotel in order to use the pool, such as Stormalong Bay. They scan your magic band before you enter the pool area. If OP's family were staying here and the 3 year old didn't have a band with a valid BC/YC reservation then technically he's not supposed to be allowed entry.

OP, I don't think the pool hopping rule applies here, since they are staying there. Some pools don't allow guests that aren't staying on property. I don't know the rules of this pool, but since he's one person and he's 3, I don't think there will be a problem.

Your child will be welcome to swim with his cousins as their guest at their resort. Enjoy the waterparks with your older children while the little one is in great hands with family. :teeth:

It shouldn't be an issue but it'd be best to have them list your child on their reservation.

The chances of you running into any trouble with this are about zero.

Now, someone in a different situation inviting fifteen people to come join them at the pool-sure they might get "caught." And I'd hope no one would think that kind of proposition was ok.

But a single kid joining his cousins? Nobody will care, and almost certainly nobody but you and your family will even know. Enjoy your family time!

We have stayed DVC Jambo house. And have used the main pool at the Lodge. There is no check points. I see no reason why they cannt keep your 3 yr old for the day.

Oh here I was hoping it was a thread about who could look after my 3yr old while I am there.:confused3:rotfl2:
Nothing wrong with DW and I wanting down time too,,, Oh well I will just have to love the look on her face as we take her all over the world.
Just so I don't get shot down, I was kidding about leaving my precious, I know about the kids klub and the babysitting, but we always take ours everywhere.:goodvibes

Thanks all! I feel much more secure about letting him stay with them for the day now. I didn't want to buy WP&M tickets for the rest of us unless I knew that he would be able to spend the day with them.

They can't. He would be the fifth person and they only have studio.

Then it'll depend on how strict they are at that pool. If they are monitoring it you could have an issue. Again, it's likely not going to be a problem but there's no way to be sure without listing on the Kidani reservation.

Technically, no, he is not allowed to swim with them unless he is staying at the resort. I'm not sure why people are saying it is fine as it is against the rules. Even if you were staying on site, AK doesn't allow pool hopping, so it wouldn't be allowed.

I'd suggest adding him to their reservation, but with 4 already in a studio, I don't think that is allowed (in a 1bdrm other than value they could).

That said, will anyone check mb's? Not likely, but it is possible.

Technically, pools don't allow guests that ARE staying on property. You are supposed to swim only at your resort. A couple of years ago, our family was staying at WL and my sister was at POP. When I asked about her coming to swim with us, the answer was no.

The OP asked about rules, so I stated the rules. Does that mean everyone follows them? No. Some pools are more strict than others, though, and since even DVC members aren't allowed to "hop" to AKL/AKV pools, it is possible they will check.

That statement is not entirely true. DVC member are allowed to pool hop (but you are correct, not to this pool). I just said I don't think this qualifies as "pool hopping" though. Your sister was told no because she's not a DVC member (I'm assuming), or was not staying on points at a DVC resort (if she is a member).

He's 3, and with adults that are staying at that resort. If you want to get technical, yes it is against the rules as he is not a guest staying at that specific resort. But I really don't think they are going to turn away 1-3 year old with a family of 4 that are registered guests. Is it possible? Sure anything is possible, but not likely.

Most rules are guidelines, in the op case, there shouldn't be a problem with a 3 year old playing with his cousins in a non pool hopping resort. I would be shocked and disappointed with Disney and the pool monitor if they enforced that rule on a single 3 year old child. Think on what kind of publicity this would have on "most" people.
Please let us know how things go and enjoy your trip.

Yes, and that's the reason why I don't think it will be a problem.

I wish they enforced all their rules on everyone. But they don't. So why have the rules?
