DD11 and I will be in WDW in August and will not be on the Dining Plan . I feel like it would be a waste of money since she is happy with eating Mac & Cheeese and Chicken Fingers for many meals.

My question is : Can she order off of the kids menu at a sit down resturant , for example Kona"s, or does she have to order from the regular menu. We will be paying out of pocket ?

Thanks for your help!:wizard:

My DD was able to order off the kids menu at the TS restaurants. The only place it is a "problem" is at buffets - she is charged as an adult. This year my son turned 10 - he is also happier with mac n cheese and chicken nuggets so no more buffets for us!

My son who is 10 was able to order off the kids menu with no problem at Kona or any TS that was a la carte. At the buffets, family-style all-you-can-eat, and character meals, he was charged as an adult even though he ate the kid's offerings. It is painful to pay $30 for a 10 or 11 year old to eat mac and cheese and a couple of chicken tenders! I think Disney should have left the dining age at 12 or at least give us a jr price for the 10-12 year old set. Some kids are big, adventurous eaters at that age and some still eat like 6 years olds. Makes us really plan our meals according to where our son can eat for a child's price and where we have to pay adult price. We have cut out some character meals since he turned 10.

Our 10 year old was allowed to order from the children's menu in every TS we went to including Kona, 50s PT, and Concourse. When I made the reservations, I counted him in the "adult" count, but when we were seated, each host/hostess left him a child's menu (he was and still is small for his age).

When I told our server at 50s PT he was technically an adult because he was 10 and she asked me if he would eat a full adult meal. I told her he wouldn't and she said he was fine ordering from the children's menus.

Our DS has ordered from the kids menu at 50's, Kona, the Plaza, and Coral Reef since he turned 10. No problems at all.:)

Thanks for all the reply's....I will seriously be thinking about eating at more TS Resturants that will allow her to eat off of the kids menu , rather than have her pay full price for the Character Meals.:thumbsup2 Thanks:thumbsup2

While you may think it "painful" to pay full price for a 10-year old, try paying it for a 39 year old! :lmao: DH is NOT an adventurous eater. And how strongly can I emphasize NOT! On vacation, he always eats from the kids buffet. Chicken nuggets and mac & cheese here we come! We do buffets a lot, it fits my family  and everyone is happy. My DS's are only 6 & 8 right now, but my 8 year old eats much more variety than DH. I'm glad to see the restaurants are flexible for when I get to that point. After all, restaurants in the real world will let my Mom (a senior) order from the kids meals, I don't see why it should be a big deal. But my problem with DH, well, I knew it when I married him, just trying to keep DS's from being as picky as DH! :rotfl2:
