Can children order adult meals with dining plan?

Our last trip down in Sept, I found that if you ask, most of the quick service cast-members will let your child order from the adult menu while on the dining plan. My son is not the biggest fan of nuggets and he was getting tired of burgers.

Was I just lucky, or have y'all tried this with success?

You were lucky. If a restaurant has a child's menu, you're supposed to order off of it. What you can do is age your child up to 10 so that he can get the adult plan. (You would also have to buy adult tickets.)

I'm never lucky, so I'll take it. Anyway, we just simply asked the cast member if my son could order from the adult menu and I think 4 out of times, they said "sure."

I'm really curious if anyone out there has been as lucky.

Quick service meals you can trade adult for child or vice versa, the system doesn't know the difference. Table service meals a child must order from the child menu.

Per Disney's written policy, children ages 3-9 on the dining plan are to order from the children's menu when that menu is available to them. Since that is Disney's policy, it is also the policy of this site. Mods typically close or delete these types of threads, so if it gets locked, that is why.

Any one can order what ever they want as long as they are paying for it.

op really it is cheating to try to order an adult meal when on the child plan.

We ran into this problem couple of years ago with our then 7 year old that didnt like kid style food. oh the issues with free dinning. lol

we just pay fulled price for her meal when she didn't want something off the kids menu or I let her pick and we split the adult meal.

When you book your vacation, or modify it after, sign the kids up for the adult plan. It's only something like $20 more for the whole week. The CM on the phone had even told me it was a no-brainer. Then they get so many more options with entrees and desserts. We've done this the past few years. Well worth it!!

To be clear, it is only that minimal of an amount when booked with free dining.

This discovery has been very helpful for us. When our boys were smaller we could get by on one adult counter service for the two of them. It helped the meal plan last a bit longer or for the third meal of the day (having more than just snack credits). They're now 5 and 7 so not sure how this will work when we return this November!

If your trip is eligible for free dining then I would book your kids as adults. I can't remember the exact dates in November but it seemed like most of the weeks during the fall were eligible if staying on site. There's hardly any difference money-wise.

I am looking at my reservation & have free dining option. On my reservation, I have 2 kids. My daughter is 10 so for park admission, she is considered as adult. For dining option, is she considered as a child or adult? Last time we were at WDW, we have the card where it prints 2 adults and 2 kids. Is this the same now with Magic Band? How does it works now? Thanks

She is listed as a child on the reservation because she is considered a child for the room. She is an adult for ticket and dining. The magic band will act just as your card used to. The only difference is that when you scan your band to use your dining credits, you will have to enter the 4 digit pin that you set at checkin.

Does Disney allow us to upgrade the kids meal plans without upgrading their ticket price?

I'm CERTAINLY not trying to create a controversial thread...I was just curious about this topic. We were never trying to cheat the system, I just simply asked (after several similar kids meals) if he could order off the menu and the cast members usually said "sure."

That's cheating. Someone that does that could save up all their kids meals and trade them in for snacks.....::yes::

First of all, it's not cheating because cheating implies getting something you didn't pay for, and that's not the case here. Second, getting snack credits in exchange for meal credits is hit or miss, and not something to be counted on.
