can anyone tell me what the price per point was when DVC first started? Any perks?

Hey everyone. I bought at HHI in 2002, and went many times before that. We always wish now that we had bought when it first opened. I am just wondering if anyone here started back then, and if so, how much were points, and were there any perks like free park tickets?

Well I bought in 1997 and the free park tickets were already not being given by then..

I think it was around $52 per point when I first bought, but I am sure others here have a better memory, lol...

lol, I am Carol also.

I think looking at how much the points have gone up, my DVC investment was a better idea than buying my house! :confused3 We bought in 2002 and they were $75 pp. I am always anticipating adding on, but not til the kiddies are done with college. If my kids stay loving Disney as much as I do, I think it would be a wonderful wedding gift, don`t you?

1994
OWK 56/pt
free park passes for the half the total occupancy of the room (i.e. staying in a 2 bedroom you would get 4 park hopper passes)

And, it seemed to me, that Disney treated you as if you were special - for being a DVC member. It was probably just marketing but I felt valued as a member and guest - not so much now...

I think pre-sales for OKW were in the $48 to $50 range, we paid $51.50 in May 1992. We received free park passes for 1/2 the occupancy of the room when staying at OKW (studios & 1 bedrooms, 2 passes, 2 bdrm 4 passes and GV 6 passes) until Dec. 31, 1999.

That`s kind of how I feel. I love my DVC, but it seems with a lifetime investment, there would be more perks. Even half price park hoppers would be great. or BOGO park hoppers. Something. Looking at the crowds there, it doesn`t seem like Disney is losing out on these rough times. I do think my Disney Store is closing though. I saw 50% off yesterday in the store. When do you see that, other than after Christmas? :confused3

It was more than the free hoppers...it was an attitude exuded by Disney and the cast members: DVC was special and its members were special. In my opinion, it started to go away after Boardwalk's success was ensured and was completely gone by the time SSR was announced.

We paid $65 a point at BWV in 2000. I'd NEVER be able to buy the points I have at todays price. We added on a few times, the highest we paid for our two 25 point add ons at AKV was $96. Since it was only 50 points, it wasn't so bad, but if we ever add on again, it would have to be through resale, it's just gotten too expensive through Disney for us, and our 285 points seems to be working out quite well.

agree.

on my first trip - it what can we (CM) do for you....

never in my life had that much service.

of course it was probably people like me - that make DVC tone it down. It did make me nervous.

but those free tickets were wonderful - used them until dec, 1999. (and that started my borrowing which has been hard to stop)

We bought VWL in 2001 @ $72/pt. I don't feel bad about that compared to earlier prices. Consider 8 years earlier, 1993 the price was $56 or $16 less than what we payed. Today, 8 years later the price is $112 or $40 more. That is 2.5 times more of an increase over an 8 year period. I would kick myself if I wanted to buy today when I had the chance that I did then and had not jumped on it.
