Can anyone tell me what a VIP cleaning is?

I am not a gremaphobe but our kids ALWAYS get sick at disney. No matter how vicilant we are about handwashing etc. they usually get some bug that takes forever to go away. I probably wouldn't think much about it but 2 of my kids need nebulizer treatments when they get sick as they have been taken to the hospital several times when they were sick because of breathing problems. We just don't want them to get sick this trip and plan on wiping down all the hard surfaces they come in contact with but I heard about this VIP cleaning and I was curious if anyone had any info on it? Thanks!

I have no problems in these areas but I feel the issue comes from more of the park areas, eateries etc than your room. Strollers, restrooms, proximity to others in the parks but you can't clean all that .

I agree...if you are are particularly vulnerable to viruses (have a low immunity) then it is quite likely you are contracting your sickness long before you even reach Disney.
Cabin air on the plane can carry viruses.....then they have time to incubate before you show any symptoms. So- perhaps it is the flight making you sick.???
My best suggestion to you is to be diligent about certain things.
1. Don't ever touch your hands to face....unless freshly washed or wiped with hand sanitizer.
2. Avoid touching the "lean rails" while in line if possible....also avoid most door handles esp. those leading out of bathrooms.
3. Take AIREBORN or (Wal borne) before leaving home ....continue to take to keep your immunity up. Certain vitamins may help as well....visit your local vitamin shop to ask.

Breathing issues may be related to the relative humidity here vs. where you normally live. Pick a season to visit where the weather/humidity will match what you are used to.

Disney does a great job cleaning and disenfecting...however there will times between cleanings that things can get germy....best option is to protect yourself. As for your hotel room - if worried bring your own lysol and spray everything down.

Thanks everyone. We do take precautions such as hand sanitizer and the such. Our main problem is that our oldest ds sucks his thumb so sometimes we can't get it sanitized before he puts it in his mouth. I agree that the airplanes are the worst culprit but the kids usually get sick the last day before we go home. We plan on wiping everything down when we get there and being a tickler for hand wiping etc. but I was just curious what a VIP cleaning was.

In answer to your original question, the VIP cleaning has to do with a THOROUGH cleaning including steam cleaning the carpets, the drapes, the upholstery. It takes longer to occupy the room since the carpets have to dry, etc... You also might want to request an alternate cleaner if you have any chlorine sensitivity. I know sometimes I get a housekeeper who is very "into" chlorox! I appreciate the clean factor, but getting the chlorine vapors out of the room is a whole 'nother issue! I would also request fresh comforters and blankets for each bed.

My DD5 also tends to get sick at WDW. We had two children become very ill at WDW and we were at the Poly for Christmas. We live in Florida, so it was not the climate. The building we were in was filled with people coughing. Our DD5 was transported by ambulance to Celebration... and a few nights later there was an older gentlemen down the hall who was also transported by the rescue squad. I think it is possible to have a "sick" building and the cleaning is not a bad precaution. You don't know how ill the people were who recently checked out of your room.

You may want to try "Airborne", we take start taking it 2 days before we hop on the plane and take it until we get back. My initial reaction when the wife told me about this was , but it seems to be working, needless to say I don't like the taste of crow

We have them do a VIP clean of our room but not to keep our kids healthy but to keep our youngest DD alive. She has a fatal peanut allergy and if anyone was in our room and has had something with peanut butter, peanut oil, or peanut dust it could kill her. She is also on a nebulizer for bad asthma, not just when she is sick. So they do it for us...but we do check in later.

Is there a fee for the VIP cleaning?

I have used airborne and it does seem to work....but who knows if I would have gotten sick anyway? I am fortunate to have a healthy immune system, unlike some of these poor children.
Kudos to the Moms and Dads for keeping them safe and treating them to the magic!

I'd like to know too if there is a fee for the VIP cleaning, and if anyone knows if they do it at Disneyland Resort Hotels. As for the germ phobes, I am the same way. Sometimes I feel like I'm being mean when I'm constantly telling my kids "don't touch that" numerous times a day. They love to hang on those railings in line etc. Or I feel like I have major OCD, but I just don't want them sick...

No there is no fee....but we have to request it through the medical assistance number that WDW gave us when Reedy Creek Ambulance took her to the hospital. When the ambulance comes to the room, so does the resort manager and also the housekeeping manager. At that time and when they figured out what the problem was they gave me a special assistance number for medical problems. While we were in the hospital they did the VIP clean of our room so that she wouldn't have problems when we came back the to the hotel from the hospital. I don't know if you can have a VIP clean done through regular reservations. I would bring cleaning wipes to wipe down the surfaces. I never worried about it when I had just my oldest DD who has no health issues, but now I worry about it with my little one who does. No one wants their kids sick but I don't know if WDW could really keep up with non medically needed VIP cleans.

Yes I fly to Disney...however we have to get my DD a dose of Zyrtec first thing in the morning, and then half an hour before the flight benadryl, also we have to put her on Orapred (oral steriod for her asthma and her lungs) and then I have to give her a nebulizer treatment in the waiting area, so she can breath well on the flight. We also preboard without her to wipe down her seat with disinfectant wipes. We also use airborne and that seems to help a lot. But just because it takes me work to get her there I don't want to keep her from seeing the world...so we go. I get car sick so driving would be hard also. So we manage.
