Can anyone tell me about the gym at the Polynesian?

First time we stayed there, we only stayed for a 3 day weekend and I didn't get a chance to work out. In July, we're going for a week and I don't want to skip my routine for that long. Can anyone tell me about the Poly's workout facilities?

There is no gym at the Polynesian. You can use the gym at the Grand Floridian, which is a 7 - 10 minute or so walk away.

I am surprised they haven't added one.

Taking a run or walk around the grounds is about the best workout you will get at the Poly!

Wow! No gym...that is surprising. I do like the idea of a short run to the GF and using the gym there. I can't imagine it being longer than a mile...anyone know what the distance is? What are the facilities like at the GF? Free weights and machines?

You don't have to walk all the way to the GF. It's actually the GF Spa, which is between the GF and Poly. Depending on where your room at the Poly is, your walk will be 5-10 minutes or a quick jog. It's a beautiful walk...
The fitness club has elliptical trainers, treadmills, stationary bikes, weight machines, etc. It's a nice facility.

Thanks! Can you tell me if they have machines exclusively or if they have free weights as well? I do use machines for a few exercises but I use free weights for the large majority of my workout.

It isn't a mile (as others have said, it's at the spa - but since it's owned by the GF, I consider it part of it).

It MAY be a half mile, depending on where at the Polynesian you are starting from. I haven't timed it yet, but I will be working on that area (for my site, timing and photographing) in the next couple of months. It may be a quarter of a mile from the luau cove area.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have free weights, but that is one of the gyms I've not been to. I plan to do a writeup on every gym later this year (when staying onsite), but not for another 5 or so months. I have heard it's a nice facility.

Thanks all!! I really appreciate the responses!! One last question: I just read on British website that the GF charges $12.00/day to use their facilities if you are not an actual guest of the GF. Is that outdated info? I certainly hope so!! After looking at the pics of the workout room, $12.00/day is crazy expensive for that setup!

The Polynesian guests can use the facilities for free, since the Polynesian Resort is one deluxe that doesn't have it's own (the WL is another one, and they can use the Sturdy Branches facility over at the WLV).

Yeah - you just leave your room key at the front desk when you check in :thumbsup2 (or maybe just show it to them...)

It really is as close to the Polynesian as it is to some GF rooms. I did time it in the past. I think it was a seven minute walk from the GCH at a leisurely pace. It is a beautiful walk in the early morning.

I think of it as a shared facility just like the launches.:thumbsup2

The workout facility at the Polynesian is walk to the pool bar, order a lucious drink and work your elbow by lifting it. :thumbsup2

I use the GF health club every day while at the Poly, the walk is actually really nice, it winds its way around the lake. The facility is great, while it's not huge there's plenty of equipment to get a good workout, it's very clean and staff is very friendly.
