I am a bit slow to jumping onto the latest items but I have been drooling over the iPod touch since it came out. The problem is I don't know much about what it actually does like what features it has, I just know it looks fun lol. I have a laptop that goes everywhere with me so mobile internet isn't really an issue when it comes to wifi. I have a cell phone that is my life. I'm curious because of the good deal Target will have on it friday since it comes with $40 in giftcards I'm tempted to splurge. So what does this thing do that makes everyone want it? Any opinions? :confused3

Okay say that is more mobile laptop but in a smaller size.

The things it have music, ereader, apps, wi-fi the ability to play movies and much more. That is all I can think of at the moment. Someone with more experience may be able to help you.

Personally I don't have a laptop, netbook, driod tablet or ipad.

I have narrow what I want is driod tablet for cheap. I refuse pay of ipad which nothing more than big ipod touch.

I *love* my touch! I have an older one so it doesn't have a camera or anything but it comes in handy a lot. I have a laptop but if I'm going out of town or on trips I never take it, too big and bulky but my touch just fits in my pocket! I recently went to Europe for two weeks and it was a true life saver. Not only did we use it as an alarm (two hotels had no kind of alarms or phones in the room and our cell phones weren't functional over there at all) but it was how I kept in contact with friends and family via email through different wifi restaurants, bars, and cafes. We also had to use it numerous times to look up stuff on the internet. I also will download movies on it for road trips. Daily I use it for music obviously and games. It's just portable and convenient and fun! If you have netflix you can use it on your ipod. If you like hauling around your laptop then you probably wouldn't use it much. But everyone I know that has a touch uses it and leaves their laptop at home.

We have two of the new iTouches. It has internet if there is wifi available. You can run any of the apps from the iTunes store (we have games, Southwest Ding, kindle, a variety of Disney apps, a forum reader, etc), we purchased a number of tv shows and movies to keep loaded, iTunes is also renting shows and movies now (save a lot of money if you just want to watch once or twice). It has two cameras and allows you to talk to other people with a touch (and see them - sort of a video chat). You can video with it. It basically does everything an iPhone does except have the phone and a 3G connection. They're pretty slick little machines.

Thanks thats really helpful and I think I'll go ahead and try to grab one up :thumbsup2

As far as the Disney apps are concerned, are the ones that can be used in the parks only for the iPhone? I guess I don't understand how you would use it in the parks since to my knowledge there is no wifi there.

Remember though, you'll only have access to some apps and anything internet related where you can find wifi. Where I live, that's a bit of a problem. And I've traveled and had trouble finding wifi while walking or driving down streets.

Its not going to be like a laptop or an iphone with a constant data plan.

Just something to think about depending what you want to use it for.

Buy it- you won't be disappointed. My only regret is that I didn't get one sooner. I use mine constantly. There are Disney apps that are useful that you can use in the parks without using wifi (i.e. apps that list menus of restaurants).

You will be surprised how quickly you use up 8 gig's if you just go for the entry level one. I use my Ipod Touch 32 gig all the time, while waiting at gas station, at dr offices and listening to books on tape (from the library) while walking the dogs. Love to download free apps, podcasts and rent books and movies from the library (you can use software programs to make itunes read a video from your movie library on the computer).

Bought it...how did I live before it? lol :worship: I can't believe all the things it can do and I know I haven't even scratched the surface yet without all the amazing apps. I feel like I've been living under a rock for waiting this long to get one. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction :thumbsup2

I have been looking at this too but I have a question.

Do you have to pay a per month fee for data access like you do on a cell phone?

Thanks!

No you don't.
DD's just picks up Wifi. She can connect to our home network, or anywhere else that has an open wifi network. But unlike the cell phone, when you are not in an area with wifi you are out of luck for internet. But even then you still have your songs/games/movies/pictures etc.

Being an iPhone & iPad owner, I don't see the point in an iTouch. Why not just get the iPhone and have an ALL IN ONE device.

The only reason we went with an ipad is because of a special needs kid who needs a bigger screen. My old iPhone is basically an iTouch now, no phone service and he used that, but seriously, why not go with the iPhone??

My old iphone is 8GB, has tons of music and apps on it and still has tons of storage too!

I wouldn't get an iphone for a few reasons:
1.) The AT&T network in this location is HORRIBLE.
2.) I use Verizon (no iphone) and from a phone standpoint - service cannot be beat.
3.) The monthly fees for data/phone for the iphone are almost double what my verizon plan is...AND I need my blackberry for work purposes.

Just my 2 cents....

I totally agree with all of this. My husband has an iphone and doesn't have a signal in our condo  and I like having a cheap free phone and a low monthly bill which you can't do with an iphone.

I would never pay the monthly bill involved with an iPhone. I have a phone that I love with a low bill and the iPod was a one time purchase giving the best of both. It isn't akward at all having both because I rarely have them out at the same time. My phone gets it done and the iPod is just for down time :thumbsup2
