Can anyone recommend shuttle from Orlando-Sanford to a WDW resort?

Hi. I'm new here. My name is Cathy, and I am planning my third trip (Aug. 06) with my DH and daughter (She'll be seven.).

We're flying from Worcester (MA) to Orlando and are getting a great rate ($59 each way, nonstop flight) but, in order to do so, we need to fly from Worcester to Orlando-Sanford airport. Since we can't use the ME because it only shuttles to and from Orlando International, I am in dire need of a fairly inexpensive (but good) shuttle service to taxi us between the airport and Pop Century.

Does anyone have one they'd recommend?

Thanks!

Cathy

We are also flying into Sanford. I checked with two companies for town car transportation to WDW resorts and they were much more than we were willing to pay. We ended up renting one way from Budget because they have their cars on Sanford property........no need to take a shuttle. You may find that renting a car at Sanford and returning it at WDW is the cheaper way to go. Good luck!

Check with Allegiant. When you book your tickets with them they have a page that offers a $21.00 pp each way shuttle from SFD to the LBV area (Disney).

Now I don't know where the shuttle actually drops you off, but I'm sure a call to Allegiant will answer that.

Just for your info, Budget is NOT on property at Sanford. You need to take a shuttle to US17-92 where the office is. It's about 5 minutes from the airport. The office is, however within a half mile of SR417.

On property car rental agencies are Alamo/National and Dollar (I think)

Is it that far? I Mapquested from the Sanford airport to Pop Century and it said it was 20 minutes... However, Mapquest can sometimes be way off...

Is a taxi possible, or will that be an arm and a leg?

I'm so confused! I'm soooo trying not to spend all the money we save on the plane ride just traveling under an hour from the airport to the resort and back...

Okay, I have called 8 million places and checked dozens of places online since I last posted... I even called Disney reservations. All they could suggest to me is to rent a car at Sanford, drive it to Orlando International, and then catch the Magical Express to our resort. LMAO! That wouldn't have solved our return trip problems, though... Our flight is at 7:30 a.m. or something, and we would have to get up HOURS earlier in order to make it back in this manner. LOL!

We are pretty sure that (pending we find something better pricewise) we are going with Alamo car rentals. To rent one of their cars, it's the same price for 24 hours as it is for only one... We'll rent one from the Sanford airport and drive ourselves to Pop Century. Either that night or the next morning, we can (according to the Alamo site) return it at the Disney Swan (or Dolphin? I'll have to check... Can't remember. LOL!). It'll be cool to have a car overnight so we can venture off-site.

The day before we leave, we'll rent at Swan/Dolphin and return it in the early hours of the next morning at Sanford airport. According to the quote I got, it should be around $80 and some change for both rentals. For us, though, doing this is saving us so much more. We can have family drop us off in Worcester and fly out of Worcester w/out having to pay for parking. Also, the cheap flight makes a difference, too.

Thanks, everyone, for the ideas! I was pretty stressed over this minor detail of our trip, and it seemingly might work out rather smoothly!

thats 20 minutes without traffic.

Check with Mears they may offer a lower cost shuttle

Actually, I called Mears and was told that they do not supply shuttle service to the Sanford-Orlando airport. Orlando International, yes. However, not the airport I'll be landing at unfortunately.

There's no way Sanford Airport is 20 minutes from POP. MCO, Orlando's main airport is, but not Sanford. Sanford is about 50 min. to an hour, depending on traffic. Route 417, the Greene Way, is a toll road that I personally prefer to take rather than going over to I-4.

As a previous poster mentioned, if you are using Allegiant air, they do offer a shuttle at about 21 per person each way. Your car rental idea is definitely less moneywise.

Hi Cathy, and welcome to the DIS boards!!! You are going to love flying out of Worc. airport. We flew PanAm way back when....right after 9/11, and it was pretty terrific. Easy to get to, parking is cheaper than Logan or TFGreen.
Your plan of getting a rental car is a good one. When we flew into Sanford we had a towncar service for 6 people...it was about $200. Since we split the cost it wasn't too bad, but still twice what it costs to get from MCO to WDW via the towncar route.
And do plan on just under an hour to get to POP...it's almost twice as far as MCO is..it's about 25 minutes NE of MCO.
Have a terrific trip!

Thanks for welcoming me here, everyone! I can't believe I made it three trips to WDW without visiting... LOL! So far, I've gotten great advice (not to mention that great Dolphin/Swan deal... I work at a school, so I'm getting that $129 deal. YAY!!! We were going to stay at POP, I think we're pretty much set on the Dolphin right now...)

BTW, I changed my mind and we're now renting from National, which is a good thing. I found a coupon for a free double upgrade in my Entertainment Book.

Thanks again!

Cathy

It is 50-55 minutes not 20.

We are doing what someone else mentioned and renting a van for one day at Sanford and then returning it to the Dolphin. It's less than $50 and with a family of 5 costs much less than a shuttle service.

DEFINITELY go for the rentals to and from Sanford. The drive on 417 is a breeze. You drop the car off with the valet at the Dolphin and they give you a receipt. To pick up for the return trip, you use the Alamo/National desk in the main lobby and the valet will bring the car around to you.

You will love the Swan and Dolphin, btw. You GOTTA love that teacher rate! We are huge fans of the Epcot resort area in general. Last summer we did the same thing you're planning, only we stayed at BW so it was a quick walk back to our resort after dropping off the car. We did two one-way rentals through Alamo, dropping off at the Dolphin on our arrival day and picking the car up the morning we left. Total for the rentals was something like $75. You can't beat that price, with that convenience, with a stick! :thumbsup2

It also gave us the flexibility to grab snacks and drinks at a grocery store on the way into WDW, which can save you quite a bit of money.

I'm not riding with anyone who can get from Sanford to Disney in 20 minutes

It's definately 50-60 minutes but as others have said, it's a very easy drive using SR417.
