Can anyone identify this Goofy item?

I found this cool piece at a local thrift store. I've looked around online and can't find anything like it. It's 5 1/2" x 2 1/2" amd 5" tall. The design appears to be made of inlaid wood pieces. There's a depression running across the front and a hole on each side.

Was it something like part of a desk set?
