Can anyone give me information about the Minneapolis airport?

We are looking into flying to Orlando in December & one of our flight options has a layover in Minneapolis. Is it possible to get around that airport with only a 48 minute layover? We have never been thru the Minneapolis airport & are not sure if this is a viable option.

I would assume as long as your not flying with 2 different airlines it shouldn't be a problem to get to your next flight. Hopeflly they group the airlines together at the respective terminal.

What airline are you flying with?

Here's a link to MSP: http://www.mspairport.com/maps.aspx

Are you flying the same airline? As long as you don't have to switch terminals you will be fine. If you're in Terminal 2 (HHH) and don't have to leave for Terminal 1, you'll be in GREAT shape. If you're in Terminal 1 and stay in that terminal, you'll be fine but could find that a walk all the way to the A gates is best done taking a tram and walking quickly once you get off.

If, however, you need to switch from one terminal to the other (for example flying in on Delta but flying out on SWA), you'll run into issues with that timeframe.

If you're changing on Delta, you can have a LOOOOOOOOOONG way between gates and unless your party can move quickly and make the switch without a bathroom break 48 minutes could be tight. Of course you could wind up very close to your connecting gate, but my recent changes at MSP have involved a long walk through one concourse and then across a sky bridge, followed by a wait for a tram and a tram ride, followed by another walk.

If the switch is on SWA or somebody else, you likely would be able to make it without much trouble as long as your first flight is on time.

I travel PIT-MSP on Delta pretty often. MSP is large, it depends on how far apart your gates are. Do you have small children?

Do you have other choices?

We would be flying on Delta. We would normally go thru LAX, but we are trying to use our points and LAX does not seem available to using points. WE would be flying in on Delta and switching to another Delta plane.

It would be me, my dh, my 2 dds (12 & 10) and my mom

You should be okay if all things are running on time. The really far end of the long concourse is only for the puddle-jumpers which shouldn't be the case for you coming from LAX or going to MCO.

The only longish walk without trams/moving sidewalks is in the G section and that's no more than 10 minutes at a leisurely pace if you happen to end up at the very last gate.

The bigger potential issues is that you're talking about a December flight in Minnesota. MSP doesn't close for snow too often or for very long, but weather can cause delays both outbound and inbound and 48 minutes doesn't give you much cushion if they have you make a couple circles over northern Iowa waiting your turn before landing...

Quite honestly, you shouldn't have a problem at all with the airport. As John said, the only other issue to consider is december weather.

I travel in and out of MSP at least 4 times a month and the longest it has ever taken to get from one side to the other is 17 minutes and that included a tram ride. I'm not sure why you'd be on skybridges at MSP Terminal 1 if you're on delta, but stranger things have happened I suppose.

With 48 minutes you'll have time to deplane, get to a monitor to confirm your new gate, walk to the new gate and hit the bathrooms if it's not across the airport and running late due to weather.

Best of luck!

And they've happened to me all the time.

Going to A or B (and parts of C) from the high G gates (11-22) is fastest using the skybridge rather than going all the way around through D.

You will be fine with 48 mintutes. MSP is a very easy airport to navigate. Your gates may be a ways apart as Delta has about 70% of the gates here, but there are moving sidewalks for the longer terminals.

I would fly through MSP versus LAX any day! I avoid LAX as much as possible....

Duds

Well that is most certainly true.

I prefer MSP to ORD (at least on United; American is better) any day too.

AA and United are all right in the same area at MSP. Actually they each only have 2 or 3 gates, located right next to each other.....

MSP is a very nice airport and if you actually have time to spend there, the main terminals mall if very nice to browse...
