Hi..I think Iam going to try and transfer my points to another DVC member.
I have 300 SSR points that I got in December 2006....(I actually have 320 but Iam going to use 20)...
How will this work...Do i call MS transfer the points and then take payment?
Or do I take payment first then transfer:confused:

Is it usual to pay through paypal..I think I would prefer this. Also do i take payment now ...not when the other member uses their points for a vacation?

I take it is now as iam effectively giving them the points for them to decide what to do with? The points become theirS right?

Thanks for any help...Iam sure I'll be an expert soon..but I appreciate all the help i've had on this board.:thumbsup2

this completely depends upon you.

I generally do the transfer - then they send me the money. One guy even send it overnight Federal express. (that is not necessary)

the other one just send me a check in the mail.

these people ask me personally.

on the rental/trade board - it should work the same.

on my rental contracts I want half when they receive the reservation confirmation - and half 90 days before they leave.

your terms are yours.

you can spell it out in your ad exactly what you want - then no one can come back later and say they didn't understand it.

just like what you get for your points - be it $10, $11, $12, etc. per point.

You need to be careful here for several reasons.

1) Transfers can not be reversed. They are a final transaction. Thus once you authorize the transaction, the points belong to the new member. MS will not get involved if a dispute arises.

2) It is specifically and explicitly against the rules spelled out in the POS to transfer your points for any type of compensation. I'm not saying that others do it, I'm not denying that I did it in the past. Just with stricter rule inforcement, and my belief that MS/DVC monitors this website, you need to be aware of that rule.

3) Because of # 1 above, I always paid in full for any transfers, BEFORE receiving the points. When, I transferred out, I also insisted for payment in full. Obviously the 'buyer' is assuming the risks here, just as the renter does in a rental transaction.

Good luck!

Thanks.:thumbsup2 ..What happens if you transfer the points to another member but then they don't pay you?:scared1: ...I know unlikely but Iam trying to think through all the possibilities.
I like your terms spiceycat...sounds very fair.

Thanks Tony we posted at the same time. Oh dear..it sounds a bit scary.:scared1: ..I didn't realise compensation wasn't allowed. Perhaps I would be better renting..I thought it would be simpler if a DVC member could take a good chunk of points.
If I do transfer I will definitly do it "payment upfront" as you suggested.
I feel bad for the member taking the risks though. I suppose I could give them by phone number and speak to them if that would help? Also if they pay through paypal as i would like...will that offer some reassurance/

What are the potential consequences for breaking the rules and doing a transfer? HAs anyone lost therte membership for this that we know of?

Nothing Public reported.

I liken this to poking an 800 pound Gorilla with a sharp stick. You'd better hope that cage & door are good and locked!
