Can anyone explain the cancellation policy of ONE day or $10 each?

I am a bit confused on the cancellation policy of alot of restaurants/shows, that says a cancellation policy of one day or you will be charged $10 each person.

Why I ask is, what is ONE day? Do they mean 24 hrs? Or more than that? B/c allears.net says 48 hrs for cancellation for these restaurants? So when exactly must you cancel by for no charge?

Per those on the board who have had experience, it's been reported that it really means one FULL day. So if you have a reservation on a Sunday morning that you want to cancel, calling Saturday morning is not enough - you have to call by close of business Friday.

I have no personal experience, since we haven't had to cancel anything under the new policy yet.

EDITED: I noticed now you mentioned 48 hours. Some restaurants have had 48 hour cancellation policies in the past, I believe (can't remember which ones those might be). My answer above is directed solely at the new credit card guarantees that started last fall and what people have reported regarding those. So it may/may not be the same as someplace with a 48 hour guarantee. Your confirmation from Disney will state the cancellation policy for each reservation.

Yes, this is the only detailed explanation that I have seen Disney has actually been willing to put into writing. This does not guarantee that they are actually *enforcing* it that strictly, but it gives them the flexibility so to do.

Fanstamic meals are 48 hrs cancelations & I'm not sure, but aren't the dinner shows also 48 hrs (HDD, Luau) cancelations.

OP, there is a sticky on the top of this thread that talks about the cancelation policy that may help answer some of your questions :)

When I made my ressies the CM told me it was more like two days because it had to be a full day before, not just THE day before.

That's so odd and what is confusing.

The CM on the phone today at WDW reservations told me it just has to be the day before. So I said, let's say the ressie is for dinner on Sunday. CM told me the cancellation must be placed before the end of the close of the business day the day before, so in that case, Saturday by 10pm. I asked about a full 24 hrs, he said no, just the business day before.

Can anyone clear this up b/c it seems we all are unsure of what the real rules are????

No unsurety at all - the only thing that Disney has clarified *in writing* is that it is a full calendar day in between cancellation and reservation. So
Sunday reservations have to be canceled by Friday night.

Whatever any CM tells you on the phone is worth the paper it's written on. You're at their mercy in trying to convince them of any policy you don't have in writing.
