Can anyone compare May vs. Aug crowds?

We have almost always visited WDW around the middle of May (no coincidence that my birthday is then :) ). Now because the kids are getting too old to be pulled out of school, we are looking for our next trip to be August 2006.

How do the crowds in mid-August compare to the crowds in mid-May? I would like to go the last two weeks of August, but I think high school sports start a couple of weeks before school starts.

I realize that it will be very hot with daily thunderstorms. We've been lucky on all of our trips and had almost no rain at all. I am more worried about crowds and lines, though.

we've been both times (week before memorial day, week after memorial day and the 3rd week of august) and the crowds were pretty similar, imho.

I find a large difference. We walked on most rides (or waited minimally) in the middle of May, and waited and waited and waited in mid August. We haven't been mid August in years, so it may have changed. We love mid May.

Thanks for the replies!

DMRick--I agree with you, I love mid-May also. But I have a son beginning high school and a daughter going into 7th grade. The last trip we took the kids out of school for a little over a week, and it was a lot for my son (who was in 7th grade at the time). He maintained his very high GPA, but he had a lot of work and a lot of teacher attitude to deal with.

The increase in crowd level is one reason that I'm trying to save up enough for a full two weeks this time. I wish it could be even longer!

I would tend to think that the crowds will be bigger this year during May due to the Happiest Celebration that kicks off on the 5th. I don't know fo sure, but if they have success with this promotion and the fact that there are no public codes offered (meaning that they are filling rooms) that the summer might be busier in general. Sorry this is not too specific, but something to consider!

try the last 10 days or so in August as most of the kids in the southern states have gone back to school. We were there August 22-31, the parks were not crowded at all, actually really nice to get around, and there were only 10 minute or so waits on some of the rides.
It is still very hot and humid, but we did seem to get a break with the rain.

We've gone in the first and last weeks of August. The first week was jam packed! I don't think we'll do that week again. The last week was nice. Crowds were manageable, but it was very hot and humid. This is our first trip in May. I hope it's nice in May!

August is miserable. We usually go in August every year, and it's hot, its humid, it does rain every day at around 4pm. The summer months are winter in South America and the amount of tour groups will blow your mind. They are fairly rude as well, you'll have 2 people fromt he tour group in front of you in line then about 20 more will join them!!! It's nuts, the busses are crowded the parks are crowded. We aren't going this August (instead we're more crazy and going at Christmas)
