IF/when Aug room discounts become avail w/AP (Im assuming they come out before codes) and I change our rack rates to the AP rate
then a code comes out that would save me more money
can I change an AP discount to the code discount?

Yes you can apply a code to an existing reservation, they would just leave the excess deposit you paid on your account and apply it to the total at check in/out.

Historically, AP and Florida resident rates have always been the best discounts, even if only by $5 a night.

An ap rate is a code. Usually they are all released fairly close together. (if they have them) Usually there will be three:

code anyone can use
ap code
FL resident code

If you book with the ap code you are in great shape! The only time I've ever seen a code lower than the ap was the FL resident rate.

Yes you can apply a code to an existing reservation but keep in mind that they only release AP discount and codes in general if they cannot fill the number of rooms they want to at rack rate.

Also, the AP rate is generally less than any sort of general code even if it is only $10 less it is generally less.

I think the original poster meant that they might save money overall with a regular code vs an AP code.....I'm in that same boat.

We'd like to stay at a moderate resort on our next trip. Well, rack rate for our June trip would be $149 per night. Let's say an AP rate comes out at let's say $79 per night for a moderate (others have reported receiving postcard/e-mail codes at these rates and AP rates historically follow these postcard/e-mail rates).

Now...to get the AP rate...I need to upgrade my ticket from a $234 expiring MYW ticket to a $420 annual pass to get the discount. But, the discount is definitely worth it. I'm paying about $186 more for the AP over my regular ticket, but I'm saving $70 per night over my 8 night stay....$560 plus tax.

If a general public code is then released at say $89 per night....I would come out ahead by booking that code and not purchasing the AP (assuming I am not returning within the next year).

$79 AP Rate x 8 nights = $632 + $186 to upgrade MYW to AP = $818 (Avg $102 per Night)

$89 General Public Code x 8 nights = $712

Even though the AP rate is better...I come out ahead with the General Public Code.

As I said...I'm in the same boat. I'm waiting for codes just like everyone else. If no codes at all are released, then it's a value resort using the AAA discount at around $85 per night. If codes are released, then we are upgrading to moderate....or possibly Wilderness Lodge depending on the rates :cool1:

Till then...just waitin' on codes..... :rolleyes1

In March the public code was $235 for the Contemporary and $114 for a moderate (POR). The AP code was $199 for CR and $104 for POR. Speedy is right that it may not be worth it to buy an AP just for the discount room rates, but it all depends on how many nights you are staying and how many days you are using the parks.

It looks like you are staying for a full two weeks, so you probably will benefit from the AP and you also can buy a Disney Dining Experience Card to get 20 percent off on all of your sit down meals (plus counter service at AK and value resorts).
