Can add-ons modify existing reservations?

If I have a 2008 reservation that uses a combination of banked '07 points and '08 points, can I change the allocation if I buy add-on points? In other words, when I get additional '07 points through the add-on, can I bank these points and have them replace the '08 points that are currently on the reservation (or will I have to cancel and make a new reservation)?

Thanks!

not sure - i hope you'd have to make a new reservation...otherwise it partially defeats the purpose of having an 11 month home resort advantage.

OTOH, i am pretty sure that once you've borrowed '08 points, though, you can't "put them back." you can probably bank add-on points into '08 but the borrowed points will now expire at the end of your '07 use year.

You can reallocate points but from what I understand MS may give you a hard time if you booked using the 11 month window... There were some posts about this a few days ago maybe someone with experience......

I'm not sure that I understand your concern about the booking window. This would not change my days, just the points that I use.

Also, there is no borrowing involved here. It is just a mix of banked and current year points. My question is whether banked points from an add-on can displace the current year points on the reservation.

You can bank the 2007 points then substitute them into your existing reservation for any days that are not wait listed. You are not supposed to be able to do so for those days that are wait listed but you never know. Though some would like to think that reservations that are made during the home resort window can't be so modified after the 7 month window opens, they would be incorrect.

I just added on 200 points with a June use year. Was able to bank the 2006 points with no problem. Then booked a new vacation for August. Then reallocated points for the November trip I already had booked to use the banked 2006 points and leave the 2007 points available for a possible vacation or to bank into 2008 depending on what happens with our vacation plans. I had borrowed 2008 points for the November vacation - since it never hurts to ask I did inquire about returning them to 2008 now that I have more 2007 points than I ever thought I would have. Member Services very nicely told me the answer I expected - once borrowed, they cannot be returned to the original use year.

So could you use say BCV points to book a stay at BCV at the 11 months window, then at 7 months out swap those points out for SSR points and get your BVC points back?

That I think is the concern people have about swapping points within the 7 month window. If I had 150 BCV points and 300 SSR points I could effectively make 3 150 point BCV reservations at 11 months off of one set of points.

If (and only if) there were no waitlists for any of the days you want to "swap" points. This transaction essentially conists of canceling and making a new reservation. Very occasionally, someone will report that MS allowed them to do this, but it is not policy (and usually, more info follows that tells us there realy wasn't a waitlist for the days the points were changed out). There are far more consistent reports of MS not allowing this type of transaction.

Yes - if this were allowed, it would not be fair to other owners because the member is using non home resort points to get a reservation he/she could not have gotten at the time the reservation was made. It's only fair that he/she go to the bottom of the waitlist if non home resort points are going to be used.

Carol gave you the correct information but I'll tell you that in most situations it will work where you can substitute for at least part of the days for almost all given trips. You can even waitlists to do so.
