Can a SSR owner (or any FL owner) stay at the Grand Californian?

My wife just told me that we could use our points to book a vacation at the California villas, but I thought that I had read here that you can only do it if you are an owner there. What is the real story? And if you can book there, is there ever availability at the 7 month mark?

The Grand Cal villas aren't even open yet, and they aren't open for booking yet, so no one really KNOWS what's going to happen with availability.

But in theory, other owners will be able to book there, definitely. It's not closed to only owners. However, since it's so small, the likelihood of there being 7 month availability isn't, perhaps, all that high. (so you may do so, but you might not be able to, if that makes sense)

Yes, of course, at the 7-month mark any DVC owner can book at GCV. As you speculate, however, the big question is what kind of availability will there be? Being such a small resort, GCV will not have a lot of rooms at the 7-month window, but I have no doubt there will be some. How many will depend on the time of year, just like with any other DVC resort. Holiday times will most likely be booked at the 11-month window by GCV owners. Some times may be relatively open. Most times will probably fall somewhere in between. And, then again, lightning may strike once in awhile and someone will be able to book at the last minute at a high-demand time. Who knows?

Since they won't start taking bookings until June, this is all pure speculation, of course. Only time will tell what kinds of booking patterns will emerge. However, I do remember all the hand-wringing about how quickly such a small resort would sell out, that there might not be any points left for regular members after the founding members had first crack. Well, as far as I know, sales are open to the general public, and there are still points available for purchase.

Called MS this morning and there was a recording that booking would start June 1st....Good luck if ya decide to go...I know DW has been asking for a DLR trip soon as well so we'll be looking for ressies there when the hoopla calms down a bit. Not to mention DVCMikes TR makes us want to go NOW more then later.. Shawn

I thought it was June 7th

I read on the member site they will be taking reservations starting June 7th for Owners and June 21st for everyone else.
