Can a party of 5 squeeze into a party of 4?

Pretty sure I know the answer due to fire code, but if a party of 4 reservation opens for an ADR is it ever possible to swap it with a party of 5?

It has more to do with the number of seats/chairs fit at the table. In most cases, you cannot book a 4-person table and show up with 5 and be assured of being seated. If the restaurant is booked, you may very well have to find alternate dining arrangements for the extra person. And if you all walk away, you would be charged the $10 pp no-show fee.

Pretty sure I asked this five years ago too, but I'm stubbornly hoping that someday I can fit a pentagon into a square hole.
