Can a 10 year old order from the kids menu while on adult dining plan?

Just wondering if our son decides to sometimes order a kids meal instead of from the adult menu, do they allow him or does he have to order from the adult menu?

We did it fairly often on our last trip - our daughter who was 12 at the time ordered kids meals...most of the time they just brought her adult portions.

My mom (who is a grandma) orders from the kids menu sometimes.

Be advised the this might be contingent in the restaurant and that they may upsize it to adult size and price accordingly at table service.

At counter service, they will not bat an eye.

If on the meal plan, your child's adult meal credit would be used.

you can but it sure is a waste because you are still charged the adult TS... for the most part.

if it's free dining plan then its not that bad but if you paid for the plan I would suggest not getting the plan and pay out of pocket for the trip instead. My 11 year old still prefers mac-n-cheese or a plain burger so he always eats off the kids menu.

You could also pay OOP for the child meal and save an adult credit for something else.

that's a good idea. Most of the time he prefers items from the adult menu so we will be ok but once in a while he may like something from the kids. He's in that in between stage. But we have free dining for this trip so it's good either way. :cool1::thumbsup2

This

The DDP is of questionable value anyway- but you will definitely NOT save money using adult meal credits for children's meals. Disney will let you do this because they are making a killing when you do it.

Has anyone received pushback from any TS restaurants by wanting to pay OOP for an 11 or 12 year old's kids' meal rather than using an adult TS credit? My daughter will be 11 and will qualify for adult meals on the DP when we're there next fall (with free dining), but no way will she want anything off the adult menu. She's still going to want pizza and grilled cheese, I guarantee!

I'd much rather pay OOP for a kids' meal for her (at non-buffet restaurants, obviously) and just save the adult TS credit for use at another time... but we'd be using dining credits for the other three people in our party and only paying OOP for her.

To anyone who has been in the same position, could you please share which restaurants allowed you to do this with no problem, and which places (if anywhere) refused? It would help us a lot with our ADR planning. Thanks! :)

You'll get very little resistance, if any, anywhere. The only time it MIGHT be a problem is at a 3rd party restaurant that has an age limit on their kids meals and really sticks to it, but I've never seen anyone report a problem.
