Can a one year old child ride the river rapids in AK?

If so can they sit in their mom's lap?

:sad2:

Wow. Just.. wow.

On second thought, it might be safer for you to put the kid in the center backpack compartment. :rolleyes1

No, there is a height restriction on this ride, I believe 42". People less than the height requirement are (not)allowed to ride.

Are allowed to ride or are not allowed to ride?

Maybe you've never seen the ride. I don't think it would be safe for a one year old on a lap, plus a one year old would not meet the height requirement so he couldn't ride anyway.

If your 1 year old wants some water fun in the parks, be sure to check out Donald's boat in Toontown.

I'm sorry NOT allowed to ride.

The height requirement is actually 38". Those who are not 38" tall or taller are NOT allowed to ride this attraction.

I agree 100%. I wonder how that kid's gonna like ToT.

use the "Switching off" option. You ride the ride while someone in your party watches the baby, then when you're done, you watch the baby and they can ride. :woohoo:

Absolutely amazing! How can anyone even consider taking a 1 year old on a river rapid ride? I would hope as a parent you'd have at least thought about the possible safety risk.

Seriously, OP, don't even consider it.I would think it would be way too jerky for a little one's neck.

I took myDS20 on a similar rapids ride when he was 5yo and he nearly drowned when we got stuck under a waterfall. I had to jump up and unlatch his belt so he could get out & get some air :scared1:

Just wait...she may not have known just how wet and wild this ride can get. Some "rapid" rides at other parks are very tame, more like float trips, and maybe she hasn't ridden any ride like this ever. I'm sure she thought about safety, or she wouldn't have asked this. Let's be helpful.

To OP, everyone is right, the baby couldn't ride due to the height restriction. We will always answer your questions, so don't be embarrassed :goodvibes

Definately not. Too much water. It would drown your poor child.

I don't think the wetness is the issue here... I would have thought the violence/risk of drowning was enough to put any parent off!

Must admit I'm a little shocked that anyone would even ask this question :sad2: :confused3

Come on folks, it was just a question. Not everyone in the world knows what every ride is about at Disney.

There are many people who have never been to Disney and have no idea what the rides are like. For us that seems unimaginable, but true nonetheless.

To the OP. There are 3 main reasons why it is dangerous for a 1 year old to ride Kali.

1. The water. There is a enough water dumped on you to drown a 1 year old, should the child inhale at an inopportune time.

2. The movement. The ride is jerky at times, a 1 year old's neck muscles are not developed enough to support their head, if the ride suddenly jerks, it is possible for a little child's neck to be injured, to say the least.

3. Ride restraints. The restraints on the ride can only guarantee the saftey of a person 48' tall or taller. People of shorter stature can not be safely secured and may be ejected from the ride vehicle and into a swiftly moving river.

I agree with Threehearts, WhoGirl'sMom, Alison and SleepingBecca! Someone who has never been to WDW would have no idea about the specifics of the rides. You shouldn't fault the OP for just asking a question. Isn't that why we come here? For information before our trips? More and more I've started looking at different message boards because I feel that this site is becoming too judgemental and negative. People are scared to ask legitimate first timers questions for fear of being ripped apart in a thread that easily becomes 10 pgs long for one simple yes or no question. :rolleyes1

If you don't have anything nice to say, please don't say it at all! :sad2: jmho

1) Disney is very strict about height safety requirements.
2) There is no way (eg. sitting on a lap) to get around it.

I apologize for coming off a tad harsh in my first response (I am man enough to admit I should not have come off that way to a first timer, and I am truly sorry for that).

Unfortunately no, Kali River Rapids is not appropriate for a 1 year old child. It dumps a LOT of water on the riders, can jerk quite violently and unexpectedly, and the restraint system is not designed for a child that young. It may also be quite frightening and disorienting at that age as well.

Just on a side note, after looking at 40+ other theme parks and their requirements online, I can find none that have a river rapids ride with less than a 36" height requirement.

Maybe you are thinking about the 'lazy rivers' at the waterparks? In that case yes, your child can be in your lap in the innertube. However, if you are talking about Kali River Rapids, no one under 38 inches is permitted to ride, and each rider must have their own seat.
