Can 1st points be banked after the window?

I recently bought direct and was "guaranteed" that my Feb 19 points would be available to me even though my 2019 banking window has passed. I specifically asked this question multiple times in the discussion and each time was told, yes I would be able to use them in 2020. Have experience with this? I am going to call member services next week, but of course I am curious...so had to ask here.

As long as you bought direct, MS will bank those points for you. (MS is open on Saturday & Sunday)

Oh good. When I logged on and it said "points can no longer be banked" I started to worry my rep was misleading me. I guess they do it as a one time courtesy?

It’s not the “one time courtesy,” you may have heard made when owners end up in a jam. This initial banking would be more a function of the developer selling a contract in its current UY after the banking deadline.

Suppose next year you forget to bank your 2020 points by September 30th and called to see if they can make a “one time courtesy,” there is no guarantee they will, but they would not count this initial banking (post-deadline) against that courtesy.

As others have said, if they didn’t allow the banking, it would be a tough sell to buy particular UYs if they were already passed deadline.

Another thing they will do if you add on direct, is reverse borrowing, to allow you to use currently purchased points.

Since this has to be done by a CM, there would be no way, once contract is loaded in the website, for it to automatically show it!

Good to hear, thank you! My rep would never commit to saying this year's points would be "banked" in those terms but he said several times they would be available to use. I guess I just got leary once I saw my dashboard. As a follow up, are the CMs hands tied with only booking at the home resort? Do they have to wait until you are within the 7mos window to use the points in question beyond the home resort?

You cannot book a non-home DVC resort further out than seven months out. You have to wait until you are at least seven months out to book that non-home resort. From seven to eleven months out, you book your home resort. No other resorts.

Yes, I understand the 11/7month windows, I was just wondering if the Welcome Home booking was unique and allowed it.

Following to find out conclusion.
I was told during my Welcome Home Orientation call that "the paperwork would be turned in" to have my Feb 19 points moved into 2020. I am planning on waiting until I'm in the 7mo window to use my Welcome Home 1st booking.

Just be aware that depending on what you are hoping for, if it is a sold out resort, there may not be anything they can do to get you the reservation,

For example, there are only so many BW view rooms or AKV concierge rooms. if those are booked, they won’t be able to help you.

Don’t want you to be disappointed if it doesn’t work exactly the way you want it to,

Many times, where they can pull some inventory is at the resorts that are being sold, So, if you bought new at say, AKV, but wanted a room at RIV, they might be able to help since they can pull a room from developer owned ones.

I appreciate that. I am taking my first solo trip for my first DVC stay and will be THRILLED to stay anywhere. I just want to see what might be available at 7 months but I'll be happy anywhere really.

Awesome! That’s the best thing of DVC. I have had great luck at 7 months getting to stay elsewhere. Sometimes it takes work, but in 10 years, I have yet to plan a trip that I didn’t get one of my choices!
