we have the ddp for aug this year and I am concerned that my ds10 will not like or even be able to eat an adult potion. As long as we use his adult ts credit will he be able to use kids menus?

Well, maybe. It depends on the restaurant. Supposedly, they'll allow the kids order the kids items even though they'll charge you for the adult TS. Others will be absolute arses about letting the kids do that. The biggest difficulties we had with it was at some of the World Showcases restaurants, since it seemed there were language comprehension issues.

If your kiddo is 10 and unlikely to like or eat the adult offerings, you may want to consider dropping the dining plan and just paying out of pocket for meals. The costs for the adult dining plan for a child who won't possibly eat that much is more expensive than just paying for meals without the plan.

I would think that if your 10 year old is ordering consistently off of the Children's menu that you'd be better off not using the DDP at all.

Kids meals are $7.49 at TS restaurants

Kids meals are about $4.49 at CS locations

The value of Snacks is also lower this year, averaging $2.50-$3.00

Your total cost for your child to eat for the day will be about $15.00 or $16.00 including tax.

The cost of their plan is $37.99/day. You and your DH will need to be very conscious about spending as much as you can to make up your child's deficit, which will be about $22 per day. That is a lot to 'make up' on the current plan.

My DS who now is 11 is also picky. Last year on the DDP we did a lot of character buffets. Breakfast has always been his favorite meal of the day. For us it seemed cost efficient to go that route. We will be using the DDP again in August and have already picked out the buffets to go to.

I assumed that since the points are 'pooled', and since you can specify how many credits you are using (even if there are more in your party) that you could choose to use credits for your meal (and DH), then pay OOP for your (adult) child. They do not force everyone at the table to use their points (and hey, you might want to save them for a different restaurant).

I was planning to do this for some meals for my daughter who is 10. This would give me many more TS credits, so we could all do the character breakfasts as well as TS dinners on some days. There are many restaurants that 'might' let me order a kids meal for her, or at least I could choose an adult entree (she usually likes the cheaper things like pasta). I'd rather get the maximum value out of those adult credits if I can, but it depends how long your trip is and what your eating habits are.

My 15 year old didn't like alot of what was on the adult menu and he ate off the kids menu and some places they gave him bigger portions of the kids menu. we were on the ddp in sept.

I'm also taking a newly minted "adult" (10 year old) to WDW this Spring and we plan to do the DDP. We did a Disney cruise a few months ago and found that he liked to order steak. I am trying to arrange our non-buffet meals so that steak is an option most places (perhaps ask for it without the sauce). If he has that he'll really enjoy it and it is usually an expensive choice if OOP.

Taking a look at the menus before going helps.:goodvibes

stephensmum,

We used the DDP in Aug 07 and my then 12 yr old was very picky! We had no trouble at all buying him a kids meal OOP at places like Le Cellier, Kona Cafe, Capt Jacks, and even California Grill. We used the extra TS credits to do an extra buffet and make up for the ones we needed for Cali Grill.

Have a great trip!

p.s. I used to spend a lot of time in Newcastle! small world!:)

This is exactly what we plan to do in August - Extra character breakfasts, CG and HHD being booked instead with the extra TS's.

My girlfriend has the same situation and I can believe this, but when she called Disney the CM checked with her supervisor and she said he didn't need the meal plan. So only 3 out of 4 in her party will have the meal plan and they are paying oop for her son.

I did not think this was possible, but I was right there and she called (last night)!

Hope it helps!
