I know there are pet loops but do you have to have a hard shell camper/trailer in order to bring a dog? Can you have a pop-up and still bring a dog?

You can bring it; but you can't leave it unattended. You'll need to board it every time you go anywhere. You'll also need to request a "Pet Loop".

Actually, this is another area that the FW rules have become very gray about.

The old published rule was not to leave them unattended in tents or pop ups. As of January 2011 the FW web site now states:

Pets
Pets like to go on vacation, too, so we offer a limited number of pet-friendly Preferred Hook-Up and Premium campsites. Pets are not permitted to stay in vehicles without air-conditioning or at tent sites.

So, if I read this correctly my pop up has AC and I usually stay on a premium site so Natasha can stay in the pop up. To be honest, she has always stayed in the pop up. She thinks of it as her kennel, so with the AC running and the radio on low she just curls up and goes to sleep. Now, if she was a whiner, digger or chewer I would never take a chance on it.

As with many things in life Big Boy Rules Apply, only you know your dog and how they will react.

Many people on these boards have posted about seeing or have taken their dogs with them in a popup. The only thing I suggest is to use a kennel inside of the popup. Don't want the pup to get upset and chew through the walls and get out. Of course, you will want to run the A/C when it's warm and a radio is great to drown out the outside noises so the pup will sleep.

When my folks had a popup a few years ago, we always brought the dogs, they slept in their kennels with the a/c running during the day. Never made a peep. They love visiting the fort, esp. with the new dog park.
