Hi All! I am new to the boards and am so happy to have found you! We are preliminarily planning a trip for October (we'll go the last day or two of value season so we can get that rate for the whole trip). I read on the board that we really need to make reservations as soon as we think we might go.

I haven't made reservations yet as we are still very much in the discussion stage but want to make sure we don't wait so long that there aren't any campsites available! If I make reservations now is there a refundable or non-refundable deposit? Do we have to pay the entire amount when we make the reservation? We are tent campers and really don't need any of the super popular campsites... just a place to lay our head at night. We will know in the next 2 months without a doubt whether or not we can make this trip. At what point do we risk not being able to secure a campsite?

Thank you so much for your help, I look forward to getting to know you fellow campers/Disney vacation-ers! :cloud9:

I call and make a reservation as soon as I know my dates. They will ask for one nights deposit and I beleive you have a 5 day cancelation, they will let you know as soon as you make the reservation. The campground is getting harder and harder to get a reservation on short notice.
Good Luck!

I would make them now Katie. FW ressies are hard to come by because so many people go to the fort and fall in love with it and come back. It's those people from Michigan we gotta figure out what to do with lol. Just kidding but you should make a ressie now. It will cost you one night for the deposit and as long as you cancel 6 days in advance it's refundable.

I always suggest that if you can't get all the days you want reserve what is available and then you call back each day at 0700 and see if any cancellations came thru the previous day. They get put back in the system after midnight. Some say now it goes back immediately after the person cancels but I'm not sure 100%.

There are many threads on here that will help you with tent camping. Believe me if you read this board you will be ok by the time your trip get's here. It's like a little family here and btw welcome to the camping thread.

Thank you OK Grumpy and Stacktester for your help! In the big picture losing one night's deposit is worth it if it gives us peace of mind in the interim. I had tried to find out this info other places with no success... so thanks again for all of your help. You may have saved our vacation! :)

I don't know how much I will have to contribute to the boards in the next little bit, having not been to FW yet, but I will definitely be visiting to glean all of the tidbits of info I can. I was fortunate enough to visit Disney twice in highschool and LOVED IT, but my husband has never been. We really want to be able to make a "pre-kids" trip, because, as you know, "everything changes when you have a baby." :upsidedow We have been married a few years and are ready to start a family ... we realized that we had better stop talking about this dream Disney trip and start making it happen!

Thanks again, look forward to getting to know you!

You will get your deposit back if canceled within 6 days.
Make your reservations now. I booked last month for November 2008 I booked for next spring (2008) and could not get my dates, I need full hookup but settled for partial and going to try to see if anyone cancels to get me into a full hookup by the time next spring comes.

I guess what I am saying you need to book now.

Good Luck and happy camping

If I make reservations now is there a refundable or non-refundable deposit? Do we have to pay the entire amount when we make the reservation?

Hi! When you make the reservation, you pay one night's deposit, with the balance due upon check in.

You will only lose that deposit if you cancel within 5 days of travel. Up through your 6th day before travel, you will get a full refund.
