Has anyone camped near Atlanta GA? Im looking for an over night campground NORTH of Atlanta. If so do they allow just overnight camping? We are looking for a place to stop and sleep on the way to WDW. We will be travling over Labor Day do campgrounds down there make you camp the whole holiday? Any input would be great!

Thanks

If you are coming south on I-75, I would say camping at Alatoona Lake's Red Top Mountain north of Atlanta would be a great place. Very convenient in that you don't have to go far from the interstate and you are still far enough out of the Metro area that it will be peaceful. It is about an 8 hour ride to WDW from there.

I do not know if you can only camp one night over Labor Day weekend. Many places do not allow that, while others will allow a Friday night overnight, but not a Saturday night only when it is a 3 day weekend...if that makes sense? If sites were open on Sunday, I have no doubt you could get an overnight for that night, as they would rather book it than it sit empty and fee free. There are other campgrounds around Alatoona, but many are not as big and would more than likely not allow one night only on a holiday weekend.

HTH! Happy camping! :goodvibes

Check out Stone Mountain Park's Campground. Not sure if you can stay one night or not.

Any Ga State Park requires a 2 night stay if you prebook, but if there's availability you can drive up and camp for one night. Just call when you're about an hour out.

Depends on if you are coming down I 75 or I 85 as to how to help you look. The state parks fill up quickly and require a 3 night stay over a holiday weekend. Stone Mountain is expensive and the sites are horrible on all accounts and not convenient to 75/85. The Corp of Engineer Parks are fantastic. Look at McKinney on Lake Allatoona (they actually have sites available for Labor Day weekend and dont require a 2 or 3 nite stay from what I can tell). You pass Mckinney going to Red Top...easy access in and out of McKinney/Red Top Mountain. It is Exit 278 of of I-75. It a nice park all the way around.
