Can anyone recommend some areas for a good long weekend trip to go camping with some friends in Vermont? We've done Lake Champlain area and would consider it again, I just am wondering if anyone can make any other good suggestions. I'm looking for something for August where we can tent camp. We have three kids and our friends have 1. The kids would be 15, 11, 11 and 9. We live in MA, go to NH, and ME all the time and they go to NY all the time and we wanted to try something different.

TIA

Do you like hiking too? Mountains?

Check with some of the ski areas and see if they mind you hiking up the mountain. I am fairly certain Mad River Glen allows it, and perhaps encourages it. I see pictures all the time. Hike to the top for amazing panoramic views. It might help to have a trail map to know the easiest ways up.

Although that may be a bit much for the young kids. Just an idea though.

Check out Silver Lake State Park.

We also camped along a river at a place called Rivers Bend Campground. Was fun because you could put your tubes in the water and float down the river. Forget what town it is in though.

We do like hiking. We go for a hike almost every weekend. We went for a hike this past Sunday even with foot and half of snow on the ground. Although, I have asthma that's triggered by extreme heat and cold so I like to avoid the strenuous stuff in the summer.

We went to Molly Stark State Park (on rt 9 in Wilmington) for a wedding last summer, and ti is a really nice park...you can tent camp and many of the sites have lean tos, the bathrooms were very clean and the grounds looked very well maintained. Right up the road is a big reservoir where you can do water sports, you can hike right at the park and Mount Snow is about 10 miles away and they have mountain biking, golf and other amenities.

We're looking for a place that accomodates tents. Frills aren't necessary but would be a nice add-on.

I have stayed at Kampersville many times. It used to be a nice campground but has gone downhill. The bathrooms are disgusting, they only get cleaned once maybe twice a day. There are seasonals that are there who feel like they own the campground and are quite snobby. It is a roudy campground. If you do choose to stay there make sure you have room in your vehicle or camper to lock your cooler into at night, if not you will have an empty cooler in the morning.
