I'm a city girl my hubby is an outdoorsmen-opposites attract. We're going for a quick getaway in November without the kids-our first alone weekend since our honeymoon in 2001 (before kids) we're looking into the YC but I'm thinking maybe we should camp-I've never camped by the way-not since i'm a girl scout like 20 years ago. Do they provide tents or do you bring your own & set it up?? Is it expensive. I kno i sound very girlie-I think my hubby would really enjoy this. Please any details would be great.....;)

Here's the information about renting camping equipment from allears.net:

"Yes. The official policy for Fort Wilderness is that rental tents and cots are only available to groups of 20 or more using Creekside Meadow, the primitive camping area. However, official policy and practice seem to differ. Individuals have rented equipment before and I've called FW myself and been told they do rent equipment to individuals if they have it available and a group hasn't already made arrangements to rent it. Tents are $30 per night, cots are $4 per night, so it's not cheap. Also, if you do stay in Creekside Meadow, the cost is $10 per person (20 person minimum). For group reservations, call (407) 939-7807 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m."

Good luck. Camping is fun! November will be a good time - not too hot, not too cold.

My wife was also a city girl and never camped until we were married. It is now her preferred means of travel.

Could you compromise and start in the cabins? That's what we did, and got so hooked we bought a tt last fall. We have 4 kids, and they love camping--even our (as we lovingly call her) teenage princess!princess:

well as stated before renting from Disney is expensive...I'd advise you buy your own...Walmart and Target have good starter tents and supplies....don't forget airmattresses and read the threads on this forum to get LOTS of handy tenting advice!!!!

I am actually kinda excited about this-I am going to buy my own tent and air matrress, we have a portable battery operated air pump. Now other questions: is there a bathroom with showers?? electrical outlets for my hair dryer & flat iron?? Do they have bus transportation like the other resorts. I'm very girlie, but I figure-he always goes to disney-b/c I am obessed with going-so I can compromise and do something he likes-outdoors and sleep in a tent for 2 nights. I like the idea of the cabins-I'm going to look into that, but I kinda feel like if we're gonna pay top dollar for a room-we're gonna stay at my 1st choice-they YC.

The comfort stations at the fort are second to NONE! They are way nicer than my bathroom at home, and probably cleaner :lmao:. They have plugs and mirrors etc, so no problem. There are also plugs at the site as well. Another option might be to rent a really nice 5th wheel camper from a really nice lady on here, she brings it to the fort, sets it up, and it is ready to go. It has linens, and dishes etc, all you need is yourselves and your clothes and some food.

Here is the website, check it out, it may be a really nice option

OMG-thanks John-I am liking this way better than a tent on the ground in a puddle near the swamp....and her rates are great. I think we'll do this. You guys are so great!

You'll love the Fort! The Comfort Stations are everywhere and they're very clean and provide all the necessities (bathroom, showers, & outlets) and there's bus stops everywhere.
I also highly recommend renting a Golf Cart.
