We need a campsite near Disneyland towards the end of the month. We typically stay at KOAs or Good Sam Parks but don't have to. We just need a place to pitch our tent and clean restrooms with hot showers. Anyone know of such a campground? How far is it from Disneyland?

This one comes up a lot. There should be a FAQ.

The closest tent place is on the 91 at Featherly Regional Park.
But it is RIGHT on the 91. Bolsa Chica and Huntington Beach
State parks probably permit tents, but tenting on a paved
parking lot is not much fun.

There is one other spot, recently opened, which might be
OK. Just off the 71, off the 91

If you wanted to bend the rules a bit, you could, like
Jack Kerouac described in "The Dharma Bums", camp in
the area next to the Santa Ana River, in the reeds and
rushes. In fact that is just a mile or two upstream of
Featherly Regional Park. Also it is a few miles downstream
from the Chino Hills park mentioned above. There is an
alluvial fan from Coal Canyon Creek that makes a fine
camp spot; I've mentioned to the folks in charge this place
could be called "Kamp Kerouac". No luck on that yet.
There is excellent access -- on foot or by bicycle. I will
probably be there this coming Sunday morning.

Thanks Disneyfreakz.

I am trying to recall the name of the campground we stayed at in 1988. It was right town the street from Disneyland. We literally turned right out of the DL parking lot and were at the campground in 5-10 minutes. I fear it no longer exists.

Anyone know?

Yay for the Kerouac mention! :)

Where in the book is this place mentioned? I just read it but I guess I'm not familiar enough with Southern California to have realized that one of his overnights was close to Disneyland (or where it would be? I lose track of when his jaunts actually happened, since he was writing AFTER they were done with...I got to hear about the problems that "delay" caused by my mom, who knew peripheral people in Kerouac's life)

Wouldn't it be cool if they created a campground like the one at WDW? OK that's not really Kerouac-style, but still, it would be nice. :upsidedow
