Hi Everyone!

We are taking a friends RV for our first camping trip to WDW. We'll be coming in Aug 16th and staying through the end of the the month.

I've got a 4 year old daughter that has recently learned that she loves fishing and as a firefighter I'll cook and eat pretty much anything :thumbsup2

My question is, what are the rules about fishing at the campgrounds?

I've seen that we don't need a FL license and we can't fish off of the marina docks. Where do you suggest we set up for a little early morning fishing, without renting a boat. And is it ok to eat what we catch or is Disney catch and release property?

Thanks for the help!!

Joshua

Fishing at the Fort is awesome. We've enjoyed it. I don't have the answers to all of your questions, but I have a feeling you'll be getting your answers around 3:00 AM.

You can fish in any of the canals at the Fort. It is Catch and Release only.

The rules for fishing are,,
Catch and Release Only
No fishing from any "Lake" docks
you can fish from the docks at the ponds, such as the pond at the Meadows store.
No fishing from beaches.
And you have to take pictures to post here so I can see them,:thumbsup2

You can pretty much fish any pond, canal, ditch, Bay Lake, as long as it's in the Fort area.
The 300 loop canal is popular, the 500 loop canal/ditch holds some nice fish.
And of course, Bay Lake has some very nice fish, but with all the growth along the shore, makes it hard to get to the fish.

And bring your bait/worms with you. Disney charges out the ying yang for worms that aren't magical.
Also don't be afraid to try foods for bait that you may have at youir camp, like hotdogs, chicken skin, watermelon, bologna, popcorn, just try anything :thumbsup2,. Sometimes you'd be amazed at what those Disney fish will hit.

Happy fishing and good luck to the little angler:wizard:

Born 2 Fish is correct. You can use almost anything for bait. I used this Deer on 10lb test and caught this Gator off the 1600 loop canal. Since it is catch and release only I had to let him go.

Have fun! :thumbsup2

Now that's funny right there!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Fishing is great at the fort! I have caught one of my largest bass at the fort.

I heard they have pulled a 14 lb'er off Bay Lake once , :confused3
My biggest at the Fort was 8 lb. ,,wifes biggest was a 9 lb'er.
What you hold'n ?

My tried and true bait for Fort fishing is leftover Giddy up N Go chicken skin from last night's dinner. Those fish go NUTS for that chicken skin! Even better if it was doused in hot sauce.

Mine was just barely under 8, my largest anywhere was a 9 1/2... I can't seem to break the 10 mark. I just cant seem to give up the snook & reds to try for the bass.

Joshua: Fishinng Fort W.

In April I fished a canal, about 1 hour before sunset a couple days. I think I was using a 5 inch purple or black worm, texas rigged, barb crushed (barbless), no worm weight. Let it slowly sink on it's own by the hook weight. The retrieve had to be agonizingly slow. I mean slow---2 inches stop, wait--2 inches stop, wait. From what I can remember, the bumps (inhale) came as the worm was stopped. Open the bail and let them move off a bit (take out line), close bail, take up slack, SET HOOK. That worked in April, but fishin' changes. Try the plastic worms, vary your retrieve. Eventually it will work ! ! !

We were in the 1600 loop and If a site was open, where I could walk to the canal. I did hit a lot of 10/11 inch largemouths with maybe a 13 or14. They were eager, not big, but fun. But, you really had to tease them into hitting.

Even though it was manicured (grass) pretty good, just keep your eyes open anywhere around the water. Things, some big, can really bite you.. DW worked for DIS--30 + years of cavorting around DIS with a fishin stick, YA GOTTA BE CAREFULL.
