Camera tips?

I'm sorry if this isn't the correct place for this tip/question thread.


I have a NikonD80 DSLR and really no photography skills (hence the camera that makes all of my shots look great).

Can anyone give me a few quick tips for taking pictures at night or in dark rides (like Peter Pan)? When I set it on the night time settings they are very blurry (I understand about the shutter speed). But I see so many people taking great shots of Disney fireworks and dark rides and I am hoping someone can help me.

If you go back to the Forums page and scroll way down, you'll find the photography forum. They have a sticky with FABULOUS tips and tutorials for all kinds of photography. I believe they also have threads for different camera types as well.

I've learned a lot on this forum. It's always good to brush up your skills ahead of time, instead of trying things for the first time on photos that might be really important for you.

This is probably a no-brainer for most folks, but it wasn't for me...

If you have a filter on your camera (UV Filter, Polarizer, etc.), make sure you remove it prior to photographing at night. Some people leave these filters on all the time as a lens scratch guard and do not realize that this can be an issue. I have a fast 50mm that was able to take some decent fireworks photos even without a tripod, but most of them were ruined by the green light "ghosts" -- reflections from other bright points in the area, like streetlights.

The best tip is learning how to use your camera in manual mode. Auto settings do what it thinks but is not always right. Taking a class is a big help also.

I have a Canon Rebel XTI, and the Canon brand backpack that will be coming into the parks with me every day. Do you think the backpack will be to big for the some of the rides? I know it will be at Rockin Rollercoaster in HS, and Everest at AK, but for everything else? Are there lockers to put that stuff in?

Whenever I have gone, we have always had someone stay with our stuff outside (any simple ride throws dad's balance and he gets real sick quickly).

Can anyone Help?

My DH carries a backpack of similar size and has never had a problem with it on any ride. He usually stuffs it on the floor with his foot thru the strap, or holds it in his lap. Some rides will have a place under the seat to stow it.

There are no lockers beside the rides to put bags, like Universal.

i have a nikon d5000 last yr we went down at the time i didnt even know how to turn the flash off so while on peter pan i actually held the flash down it worked the pics came out great they have different books for the nikon cameras i picked one up at barnes and nobles(if you like books to show you things)
....... two days before we left to come home we went to epcot while there a photopass photographer roy robinson showed me different things to do with my camera he was great(i like to be shown how to do things rather then reading them)
