Camera repair - Anyone done this cheaply?

The other night our friends were over and my friend's DH broke the lens off our camera.....we didn't find this out until they left so we didn't say anything. I called Best Buy (the only place I could find for camera repair) and they said it's $34.99 just to evaluate the problem then they (geek squad) couldn't tell me how much to fix the lens. We paid about $500 for this camera so it might be worth it fix it??

Wondering if anyone has been successful in repairing their digital camera and where and how much was it to repair?

Contact the camera company directly about repairs. We sent DS9's camera in for repairs this year after it was dropped and a spring popped loose. We were told we would need to pay for parts but since it was only a spring, they decided not to charge. Worth a try.

Yes, check with the camera company. My Canon broke, and I sent it to them and they fixed it for $70. Check the website for repair information.

Unless it is an expensive SLR camera, don't bother! If it's a cheap point & shoot, just buy a new one. There are plenty of good deals out there and you'll get a much newer and better camera for not much more $$. I once had a camera fixed and although I'm still using the camera several years later I would have been better off just buying a new camera.

Google the brand and model of the camera and 'repair' and you should come up with something. I just sent in my Canon point & shoot that broke while we were at WDW (right before the characters came to our table at Chef Mickey's breakfast <ugh>).

Also a cannon (cost abt. $150). I would definately repair a $500 camera, as long as I was happy with it before it broke.
