Camera Batteries

I have a Canon Ixus which is about 3.5 years old.

The batteries (Li-Ion) no longer seem to hold a charge.

Is this about right?

I know that the older style laptop batteries used to fail after 18 months or so. Is it time to buy new batteries or is something in the camera beginning to fail?

I think it depends on the amount of use. If you recharge daily and also use a fast charger the battery life will not be as long.

Check out sterlingtek if you need a proprietary battery replacement. If it is just AA batt.s then you can get them anywhere. Look for the biggest number for longest life.

Unless you hardy used it, I would say that you got better than average life out of them. I am not sure where you could find a replacement in the UK, but if you end up looking for one to ship from the US, take note that I believe the model number and series is different here.

Andrew - I use the same type batteries in my Canon PowerShot G5 which is roughly the same age as yours and had to replace the batteries last summer for the same reason. I did purchase an extra battery to alternate use with and I always recharge before important shoots. I'd say it gets intermittent but heavy use when it is used. Once it wouldn't recharge I hurried and purchased two new batteries!
