Calling all Quilters, I need guidance

Hi

I'm participating w/ some other adopting families and swapping quilt squares & wish cards for a scrapbook to do a 100 Wishes Quilt for my daughter. I think it's a very cool idea...but I have absolutely no sewing skills at all. I bought a nice sewing machine a couple years ago, it stays in a lovely case and takes up space in the office.

I'm trying to decide if I should try to do this quilt alone or if I should just save up to pay someone. I would have to learn how to quilt and have no idea how hard it is for a serious beginner. Would you suggest it or suggest my finding someone to make it? I would hate to screw something up this important, but on the other hand would like to make it myself.

My mother in Law is teaching me how to quilt. Putting the squares together is pretty easy my whole problem is putting the binding around the edges. Maybe you could look into taking a class on quilting. Put you can go and by some material and practice first on them. I make little quilts for my daughters dolls to practice.

and see if someone there or in a local quilt guild would be willing to teach you "as you go". That way, you'll be doing part of it while learning. Tell your story and maybe someone would volunteer to help -- I know I would if you lived near me.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to check out classes tomorrow and see what I can find. Mom said she can teach me, but we might end up at each others throats.

The doll quilts are a good idea....I can practice and make the dogs some little quilts.
