Thank you Suzanne, I loved your story. It was much needed.
I love to hear details like that. :)

Flying out this evening :cool1: I have a baggy of safety pins and extra never used bobby pins I'll bring to the POR meet as a back up. But if you are buying a Mickey ears hat to wear ask if they have bobby pins, they are sooo prepared at the stores! I was surprised when I bought my Minnie ears last May and the lady was great about it. But just in case I'll have a few extras :thumbsup2

Suzanne excellent acheivement on overcoming those doubts and finishing strong! :cheer2:

Nerves are at every level of runners ability. There was a story a few years back that the runner interviewed acknowledged that he didn't always go to sleep easily the night before a race. That the best thing to do is just to get off your feet and rest that night. I took heart in hearing that he even had cases of nerves the night before. That gentleman has been to 2 Olympic Marathon Trials. Placed 4th I think in his 1st trials and in the teens in the Nov 2007 trials. If your nervous, don't worry everyone gets it :thumbsup2

I'm actually relieved i have to work for a few hours today because I'm nervous. I'm used to having someone from home with me when I race, this is the 1st race I've ever done without a family/friend being there with me. So i have a big case of nerves, oh and my training has been non-existant for the last 2 months. When I did it was good workouts but not what enough for my liking. :sad2:

If you find yourself needing a smile on the course look for a team mate. :cheer2: From what I remember reading it sounds like we again have quite a range of paces so hopefully someone will be within view. and even if they are ahead of you but in sight, take that in and use it positively that you are not alone that your team mate is right there. I helps me, seeing them and knowing I have someone right there by me even if we're not close enough to talk.

Safe travels!!!! I have my lovely Endurance Princess window clings that Caitsmama made and will be putting them in my window 1st thing tonight!!!!

Thanks for this Diane, you always have great stories and tips.
About your window clings... you can make your own window clings? I don't think I've ever seen that product.

I printed a small LGMH and secured it to my shirt!! I am all packed and we leave Friday morning. I woke up this morning with a slight sore throat but I will push the Emerge-C and the Zicam. Safe travels to those leaving today. And thanks for the stories. I have felt my training was off because of all the sickness that we had in our house. The longest run I have done is 9 miles last weekend. So I have concerns but I am determined and will be looking for support along the way.

I want to wish everyone luck this weekend! I admire anyone that can run a half or full marathon. :)

Look for Kory, Scooner and I at the 5k. Kory will be pushing a red running stroller and I'll be huffing alongside. :rotfl:

See you race day!

Wendi, I think you asked me some days back about Dayton. I often fly out of Dayton on that 8 AM direct flight. This time, however, I got a decent rate on Delta--don't ask me how I managed that!! so I am flying out of CVG.

Are you on that 8AM flight out of Dayton?

Who are you traveling with? Is the whole family coming along?

My DH, son, daughter and my parents. I tried to get on the early but it wasn't going to work for everyone and I wanted a straight-thru flight. This is the kids first flight. They are 2 and 4 so this should be interesting. We always drive to Disney.

Safe travels to all leaving today!!!!

I will be heading out at 5pm tomorrow - landing in MCO at 8pm.

I think Avery is the brand although i have an no-name office store brand. You could always see too if your local office store has them and can print them for you or sell you a sheet or 2. they are 8x11 and have printing on one side saying 'picture on other side' so you know which side to print on :)

they also work on the metal doors at disney (tried it once with a small one) and the fridge's. since we stay at OKW in january we don't have good windows we can see and others can see (all covered in those blinds) so i made them the right side to go on the fridge. do mirror images for windows :)

What an awesome idea, Diane!!!!

I had my local office store print some for me (no decent color printer at home) -- turned out almost forest green though -- Not Stacy's fault because her original was a lovely LIME but something about the way they printed them made them darker. <sigh> No matter -- it is still beautiful (Kudos, Stacy!!!!) and I'm very excited to have it. I laminated a bunch for luggage tags, to pin on, etc. Woooooohoooooo!

I'll be on the road in 28 hours.... not that I'm counting or anything!

See you all REAL soon! :mickeyjum

Safe travels to those leaving for WDW today and tomorrow. I am not leaving until Friday. My DH has to work all day Friday (till 4PM) so we are heading out when he gets home on Friday. I am taking a half day so I can get everything ready to drive out as soon as he gets home. We should be getting to the Swan a little after 7PM Friday and then its off to Epcot - yeah they have EMH that night. I most likely won't be making it to the meet at POR. Since we aren't getting in town until after the Expo closes I will have to go on Saturday. Planning on hitting EMH in the at MGM on Saturday and then heading over to the expo to pick up my packet and then I definately want to hit Epcot again and maybe AK (looks like no MK this trip so its a good thing I will be running through it!! LOL) so I have a full schedule on Saturday already and I don't think I will be able to fit it all in if I go to the meet. I will definately search out the WISH team at the start line. Woo-hoo I am in corral A - how cool is that!!!

Oh and wanted to give encouragement to those that are feeling nervous - put your mind to it and you WILL be able to do it. I too am one didn't get much running in since January - I felt good while doing the long distances - 8.25 was my longest - so I am confident I can do this I am just not sure what my time is going to be like and sub-consiously I have to always try and better my time so I know that will be weighing on my mind.

Oh well I am going to go out and have fun with it - I bought a little girls "princess" hair accesory kit made by Goody today - so I might use something from there - maybe not the tiara comb. I also ironed a pink sequin kitty on my back left shoulder so if you see a girl with a fuscha pink shirt with a pink sequin kitty on the shoulder and my LGMH ironed on the front with the under part of her hair the same color as her shirt thats me!! Oh and I forgot to add that I ironed Princess ribbon onto my water belt. Didn't want to go too crazy but figured its Disney why not!!! Only thing left I have to do is print out the LGMH and iron it on the shirt.

1.5 hrs to go today then home to finish up packing, etc. 6.30 am flight tomorrow will have me at MCO at 10am. I am SO ready to go!!

Safe travels to everyone!!

Hey Guys
May I be selfish and ask for a pep talk from you guys?

It's not like I'm nervous enough with this being my first Half Marathon, but my husband (he is not DH today) has been giving me a hard time about this "vacation" and saying he can't be away from work, blah, blah, blah.

Initially he pouted b/c the trip was originally JUSt for ME, so I changed it to a family trip and used the 4/3 special. We've told my 4 y.o. twin boys, so it's not like I can exclude them now.... And now he's giving me a problem.

He has a habit of this, when (on the incredibly rare occurrences) that anything might be about me, or I need his support about something important to me, he becomes incredibly needy.

I don't want to turn this into a husband-bashing post, but my heart is broken and I could use a little pep talk. I realize that much of this race is a mental game, and I just want to be in the right place mentally and be able to finish this race.

I can't tell you how much doing this Half means to me, Donna, just Donna, and not someone's wife or mother.:sad1:

Donna, sorry I didn't read this before, guys are really little boys, mine brags all the time about my running...working out makes you feel beautiful inside and out, and men can see that, you are the most important person in his life and he sees this change (specially the outside one) maybe he is just looking for your attention, yes more!!!! but where it matters the most to him ;) looking sexy for your husband and giving him your undevided attention when you are alone, after the kids go to bed, may make a biiiiig difference in his mood, hope it works, good luck tonight!!!

Safe travels to everyone!!

So jealous! 6:15 a.m. flight will get me to MCO at 4:25 p.m.!

In addition to having a near-migraine headache last night (don't know what that's all about, I haven't had a headache that bad in a couple of years!), I had my first bad race dream! Not getting to the expo, not getting a t-shirt, being late on race day... it was all in the dream! The 5k is my first race ever, so I'm a real bundle of nerves.

I am hoping for no headache today so I can do a short run, and no more bad race dreams tonight! I have so many people giving me encouragement (parents, husband, even my students) that I really shouldn't be this nervous.

Allison Take a deep breath, you will be fine. You will meet lots of people at the race that you know and don't know who will keep your minds off your nerves. Once things start you will just go! Trust me, I was the same way last year at Disney and everything went fine. Good Luck!
