I just signed up! It's my first ever 1/2 marathon! :cool1: We're booked at the Poly, and I am so excited!!!

I walked in a 6K on Friday in my hometown. It is a race that my father and a high school teacher built to what it is today. This was the 26th year. I intentionally tried to walk at a steady pace to see what my starting time would be. I'm happy to say that I walked 15.67 minute miles. Since I have barely started my training, I'm happy with that.

Did you guys see that they are going to have special ears for sale? This is going to cost me. :lmao:

Disney's Princess Half Marathon Commemorative Mickey Ears: $10.65 (price includes tax) Mickey Ears will only be distributed at Packet Pickup.

I'm really giving it some serious thought. I'm new to this whole competitive running thing, and really scared of that distance. :scared: I'm only up to 3 miles now, and then I feel like I'm about collapse. I really want a challenge though, and think this may be the thing that I need in my life right now. One of my biggest concerns is race transportation, and might just stay at POP even though I'm a DVCer. Plus a little point starved anyway right now. What is everyone else thinking about the transportation thing?

I see you may be staying at SSR. I'm thinking about getting a taxi. It will just be easier and one less thing to worry about. I figured when we get closer, I'd post to see if there is anyone staying at SSR that wants to share.

Hi everyone! Well, i am starting to pick up on my training.. slowly. LOL I am 1/2 way thru Marathoning for Mortals (GREAT book btw!!) and trying to decide which plan i will train with.
Even though i could probably do the Run/Walk, i think i am going to train for the Walk/Run, since i would love to just stay with my mom, and that way we can support each other.. I don't care about time records.. as long as i finish and get my tiara!!! LOL

I think i have the list all set.. PLEASE -- if you are NOT on the list on the first page, PLEASE PM ME!! With me not on as much in the summer,i don't want to skip anyone, so it would be easier if you pm me. :)

Welcome to aimb (we are staying at the poly too!!) and to imgonnabe40!! (great id btw!), i added you both to the list!

I didn't see about those minnie ears, i will have to check that out.. where did you find that?

Caitsmama: You are not talking me into this, you are not, you are not. I'm a scrapper, not a 1/2 marathoner. So there. Don't even try because it won't work.

But if it were working, just because it's a Princess marathon does that mean my DH is excluded?? We do everything togther. I'd feel weird leaving him on the sidelines. Plus, I don't know any girl walkers. Working at home really has its drawbacks sometimes.

But just to repeat, you're not talking me into this with your cool lime LO. I could have a cool lime LO of my very own, and a princess medal. Which I've never gotten a medal before for anything, not even sit down things like spelling. That would be pretty cool for my Disney room.

Stop twisting my arm!!

Lauren, LOL I totally think you should do this -- i think we would have a blast hanging out! And believe me, i am NOT a 1/2 marathon person either!! My first race was in May at WDW, and it was a 5k - i jogged the whole thing, which was a huge accomplishment in itself - but i plan on Walk/Run the 1/2 -
As for men, i think men are welcome -- just not sure if they get a tiara medal or not -- honestly, i don't know! LOL But, i don't think they are excluded - there were quite a few men at the Minnie race in may! (Hey every princess needs her prince right?)
As for me, i am leaving the DH home, and going with my mom, sister, daughter (7) and my mother in law. (She will be my live in nanny for the weekend.. LOL)
My sis will probably run the marjority of the race, but as i said, me and mom are doing a walk / run combo -- I am reading Marathoning for Mortals now, and if you look at his training programs, he really breaks it down --- THIS will be the book / tool i need to get me here -- you should DEFINATELY get that book -- it is awesome!!! IT is all broken down for the average person.. again, can't say enough great stuff about it!!!
Anyway, the walk/run plan ends up being for the race a combo of Walking 3 min, then running 2 minutes...
And to start training, if you are brand new to running/walking, check out www.coolrunning.com and check into the Couch to 5k plan - that's what i (and LOTS of others here) used to get me moving - and it totally worked!!

But, yes, i think you should come --- with or without DH, you know you got some girls here to hang with -- :)
I know how it is working from home, i use to do it, and even now, i only work with 2 other people at the office - and i honestly don't hang out with any friends.. This board is my connection to a great group of support - and i have met some great people here!!

*do it! do it! do it! do it!* LOL

Oh---- and we could chat about scrappin' there too.. LOL We could hang out on our laptops by the pool with a pina colada (after the race of course!!) ;) LOL

you missed me! I'm doing the 1/2 and staying at ASMo (or music, I forgot, but I have the paper work at home).

I don't know what you've done to me! I bought the Marathon for Mortals today. I've not committed, but I have bought the book. Who am I kidding? I'm folding like a house of cards! :scared:

Ooh scrapping and running in one week-end. How could anyone say no to that one? :lmao: Lauren, you need to do it! do it! do it! My DH will be there for the week-end but he will be on the sidelines. I'm hoping if I need a running buddy that I'll find someone (maybe on here? Hint! Hint!) before then.

You have talked me into the Marathoning for Mortals book. I always need something to read when I'm on a new quest - since my new quest is marathoning this sounds like the appropriate book.

Ha, Lauren hasn't been back on today, either she is totally engrossed in her new book, or we scared her away! LOL ;)

OK, I had to order the Marathoning for Mortals book, too. DH is coming with me (along with my kids and mom) but he will be on the side lines. I don't know any girl walkers/runners (I work at home, too) but I'm hoping to find some friends here to at least start the race with - and then I'm sure I'll lose them when they dash off and leave me to crawl along at my snail's pace. :rotfl:

Did anyone notice Disney has moved the start from 6:00 to 6:30 am. I guess they did that because of time change that night?

aimb - no worries, you'll have plenty of support there!! The back of the pack is where all the fun is -- or so i have been told! LOL

I also noticed the time change... i guess due to the time change.. but seriously, i would have rathered have it at 6even. I don't understand what the point of moving it a 1/2 hr was... like any of us will be sleeping an extra 1/2 hour? come on.. LOL

My favorite princess is Belle.

OMG I think I'm going to be sick.

what did I do
what did I do
what did I do.... :scared1:

We can crawl together. All I hope for is to meet the 16 minute per mile so I don't get swept. If I do any better than that, it will be icing on the cake.
