To those who might be interested in some such trivia, "Cheeseburger in Paradise" was inspired by a visit to a little known island called Cabbage Key, just off Pine Island in southwest Florida. The little bar/tavern there does indeed have fantastic cheeseburgers, and ambiance you can carve with a knife. The first time I visited, we docked our boat and made our way into the bar, which is festooned with hundreds of marked-up dollar bills stapled three/four deep on the walls and ceilings, left by previous guests as calling cards. The only people in the place were the bartender and three very intoxicated people: two men flanking a beautiful woman in a red dress sitting at the bar. As we walked in, the lovely lady turned around on the stool to see who was entering, and promptly fell backwards onto the floor, cackling hysterically. I knew right then I was going to like this place.
Anyway, if you're ever in the Lee/Charlotte area of southwest Florida and have access to a boat, definitely go check the place out. As for Jimmy Buffett: no offense to all you Parrotheads, but I'm a lifelong Floridian and never caught the Buffett buzz. I can listen to some of his earlier albums ("White Sportcoat and a Pink Crustacean", for example), but otherwise, I'll leave him to you to enjoy. For tropical vegetating purposes, I'd much rather listen to Marley. But hey, whatever floats your individual boat -- go for it.
