Calling all non-USA DVC'ers - Did you pay this tax?

Hi All,

I was just about to make and offer last night when the resales guy told me about a VERY interesting additional expense, a 10% "out of country" purchase tax. Has anyone else paid this? With that added cost, the resale is almost equal to direct from Disney right now

My fiance and I are now second guessing this purchase.

Help greatly appreciated.

Never heard of that, but we bought directly fron Disney. Sounds fishy!!

I'm from the USA and would not be subject to this tax, but it sounds fishy. I'm not sure what reseller your using, but be careful. The timeshare store is a sponsor of the board and I've never heard a bad thing about them. I bought BWV through Disney and found the price to be comporable, especially when you figure in closing cost. As they say, Buyer Beware.
PS: I bought points at $62 per point and they are now worth about $92. Don't worry, it was the best purchase I've made.

We didn't pay an out-of-country tax when we bought our BWV contract from a resale company in March.

WHOA!!! I don't know who you talked to but they've got it backwards, the out of country SELLER is the one that has to pay this tax. It comes out of his proceeds. It does NOT affect the price of the property.

I didn't have to pay any tax to buy. Tom, is the 10% for selling payable for every country outside the USA, or only some? I am from the UK.

It is my understanding that ALL DVC owners residing outside the United States must pay the 10% Federal tax upon selling. However, I am NOT a title agent and would like to check with the attorney at the closing company prior to putting my life on the line. So bear with me here! I will check with them tomorrow.

Thank you for all your input and Tom from TTS did get back to me. The fact is that a out of country seller pays that tax, not a buyer. This is great news and I will be making a call today to my rep at TTS
