Calling All Knoxville Area DISers - Need Advice

Hello All!

Two of my friends and I are planning on moving to Knoxville so we can go to grad school up there. We are in the process of finding jobs and are taking a trip up there in a couple weeks to look at apartments around UT.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some general facts about the town that every one should know while moving there, like where the hot jobs are, or the best way to get into UT's Master's programs, etc. One of my friends does know a few people, but I am going in blind. I know some things from internet research, but it would be better to talk to current residents.

Just for some background on us. We are all college graduates who are moving from Palm Beach County, FL. Most people we talk to are looking at us like we're crazy since we want to leave "paradise", but we are doing this mainly because the situation in Tennessee is much better than down here when it comes to getting jobs and a place to live. Frankly, anything is better than our area right now for those things. Plus, we all want to go to UT, or TSU, or other schools up there.

Any help you folks can offer would be great.

What types of jobs?? Try to stay in the west area(Palm Beach Garden, Boca), east knox(Rivera Beach, Delray1980) is not great, north Knox is very country, south knox is like Hypoluxo(old think 1980). As you may have guesses I grew up in Palm Beach County(Boca Raton) Boca High class of 88. We moved away in 95 and have been in west knox since 97. Can't help much with UT as my oldest will be a high school senior this fall. Publix has nothing comparable up here but Kroger is close. Insurance is MUCH cheaper(my DH can help with that just PM if you need it). Summer can get more miserable than down in FL but only last a month or two, fall and spring are great(except for allergies), not a lot of snow, maybe a few inches once or twice a year(I still love the cold).

Where in Palm Beach are you coming from?
