Hello! We are attending the MNSSHP this year and we decided to go as Alice, Mad Hatter, White rabbit and the Cheshire cat. My 7 yr old daughter will be the cat. Any ideas on how to create a simple cat costume? I thought maybe I should look for a pink leotard and tights and then try and add purple stripes somehow but I was not sure how to do that. :confused3 I also want to sew as little as possible because I do not own a sewing machine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

Dyan, that is so cute.

I wish we had internet when my kids were little :guilty:

Saw CATS in the title and I am a cat person...how about something like this

You could do it with pink long johns and tie dye them with stripes using an extra arm or leg from a 3rd piece for the tail. I would use a fake fur that matched your colors better (don't care for the brown in the costume) and simply whip stitch it on to a pair of socks warn over the top of her shoes and some of those 99 cent gloves. Or scrap the fuzzy bits. They really wouldn't be necessary.

Not sure about the head piece in the picture. You could make some cat ears with the pink long john scraps and the fake fur stiffened with cardboard or wire glued to a hard headband or simply buy a set online for around $5.

When it's over just snip off the tail and you have the cat's pajamas!:lmao:

You never know what Fl. weather will be like in OCT. So I would suggest something that you could layer if neccessary. 2005, Tinkerbell had to wear a sweater and hat- 2006 my pirates were ready to become striptease artists!! and the chesire cat (ala disney) was rather fluffy, so maybe sweats would work.
...t.

How about using fabric paint on plain sweats? I wouldn't bother too much about a headdress, just fix some ears on a hairband - I find if you spend ages on a mask or something, either it rains and turns to mush or the kids say "it's too hot/scratchy/tight/loose" and won't wear it anyway :lmao:
