Calling all Angel (the show) fans..BAD NEWS

just read this thread and Im so shocked!! Its really popular over here in the UK too and there's loads of us that are really going to be upset if its cancelled :( Wasnt it enough to lose Buffy?

Cant live without watching Angel...........:(

Off to sign the petition now...

If anyone is interested in trying to keep Ats on the air, www.supportangel.org has ideas. This is the same group that was called www.renewangel.com last year, and had the postcard campaign. Both web addys link to the same site. They are hoping that enough fan response will either get the WB to change their minds or another network to pick it up. The fans who run the site are very friendly.

I dont think the show can be saved. While I don't discourage anyone from signing a petition, I am next to certain any fan effort to save the show will be ignored. The ratings just aren't there. This season has been the best for Angel in a long time, but its still not bringing in the numbers it needs.

The sad fact is that most quality science fiction does not draw enough viewers to make it worthwhile for a network. This is why we lost Firefly (one of the best series ever aired) and its why we are losing Angel. To succeed these days a series must do one of the following...

1) Have a tiltle that contains the letters "CSI"
2) Have a title that contains the phrase "Who wants to marry a ..."

Good script writing and provocative character development have less and less of a place on network TV. In a world where The Littlest Groom ( The "wacky" short-run series that will have 12 female little people contestants competing for the affections of a 4-foot-5 bachelor) can find its way onto the air, intelligent shows like Angel don't stand a chance.

:scared1:Oh MY God :scared1: You guys - every show I love gets cancelled. Why do they do that? We actually are such fans that we all get together and have dinner and watch angel every week. This is very, very bad. What is going on?

Can anyone get me a link to a press release about this. I can't seem to get the OP's link to work. I need to forward this to my friends.

If you go to thewb.com the press release is at the top of the front page.

Thanks - I also figured out that they are just not doing another season. At least they aren't stopping the show mid season and just up and canceling it like Keen Eddy was and Farscape - that would just have been too hard to take. I'm right, right? If I am wrong and they are taking it off the air immediately - someone please tell me now...........

At least we have a Firefly movie to look forward to! I hope the TV cast is in it.

Last I checked, the entire TV cast had agreed to return for the movie if Josh can get it funded. Has the funding gone through for the movie yet?

BTW: If you haven't bought the Firefly DVDs, I highly recommend them. The entire series fit on 3 or DVDs, so its cheap.

Angel was the WB's second highest rated show. How can they say the audience wasn't there?

I don't know where you heard that Angel was the WB's second highest rated show, but I'm afraid it isn't true. Angel averaged a rating around 2.4 this season. One week last season it was the second highest rated show on the WB, but most weeks its has been the 5th or 6th in a line up of 15 or 16 WB shows on the same week. The show started the season a bit stronger (around 3.5), but it has been slipping ever since.

2.4 is not enough to pull in good advertising dollars.

Here is a link that shows Angels ratings for the last season and its ranking relevant to other WB shows each week. Its not a pretty picture.

Why, why would they do this? I thought the send-off for Cordelia was outstanding. And I had hope that Eliza Dushku's new show would be cancelled so that Faith would join the show. I just loved her character.

I hated Cordy's send off. They didn't have to kill her off. She could've gone to find Xander or something so they could get back together and she could go on fighting the good fight with the original Scooby Gang. I thought something like that would have been a much better send off.

As far as Eliza's show getting canceled, please don't jynx it! Have you seen that show??? It's actually a REALLY good show and it's actually the only new show I've picked up in a long time. With Angel getting canceled and this being the last season of Friends, the only shows I'll have left are Charmed, Smallville and Tru Calling. I don't know if the WB has picked up Charmed for a 7th season, but knowing my luck now, they probably won't :( I can see Smallville going still, but I swear the WB hates me and cancels any show I watch with them.

Anyway, Tru Calling is a great show. It comes on Thursdays at 7 (central) so if you can tear yourself away from Survivor to watch it, I'm sure you'll find it worth it. I, myself, am having to juggle between Friends, Survivor and Tru. I'm going to have to start recording Tru.

Charmed has been picked up for a 7th season.

I was kind of disappointed with Cordy's send-off, too. I think maybe she was killed off because they didn't want to give her fans any hope of a permanent return. Its sad... I think Cordy was a victim of a series of wildly unpopular storylines.

I guess Mandy and I were the only ones who liked Cordy's send off. We got the old Cordy back for one final episode, bit didn't lose the consequences of everything that happened last season. It was one of my favorite Angel episodes.

WDWHound, I actually think you are in the majority. Everyone at the Angel board I post at liked the episode.

From what I've read on the boards, funding is there but the studio wants a script re-write (JW just finished the script in Dec.)to slant towards having a tv series after the movie.
