Calling All 8/19/06 Special Western Cruisers! AKA "The Cruisin' Castaways" Part 3

Whats harder to believe I just finished an unplanned double dip cruise
It was almost the same as our 2006 cruise. Two stops at CC and Coszmul, only this time it was Grand Cayman instead of Costa Maya

I felt so bad for you guys when I heard you weren't going to Tortola. I was sooooo close to booking this cruise but went for the 8/22 cruise instead. I would have been crushed if I had booked this cruise and it got switched.

There was a woman on my 8/22 cruise who was on your cruise and said people were very upset at the itinerary change and guest services had their hands full dealing with people who wanted to cancel their cruise and get off the ship.

I'm "hoping" to be able to take a 4 day cruise on the Wonder next April for my 55th birthday. :goodvibes

Yeah baby!!!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed you get to go.

Just got off the 8/22 western and this was the best cruise we've had since we cruised with you all. Great group of DISers on our cruise. The live band onboard was outstanding (makes me laugh when I remember how bad XOP was). The CMs were as good as on our 2006 cruise. I must say that Trevor is as good as Pikey.

Finally had Brent as CD. I can see why so many of the ladies on the DIS like him. He's very good when he's onstage but rather shy one-on-one. Not like Christiaan or Andy Carbone who are as personable one-on-one.

We had something interesting happen which I think DCL should consider doing. We were delayed leaving Cozumel as there was mechanical "issues" with the ship that needed to be worked on. So we had the pirate night party but DCL couldn't launch the fireworks.

Instead, there was an impromptu deck party the next night. The live band played a set and the Disney characters came out and danced to the music. Nothing was really planned - just the band played amazing music and the characters just had fun. The band played more rock music and Goofy was head banging. The Goofy pool was still open with kids swimming in the water. The entertainment CMs were dancing on the upper rim of the Goofy pool. I got up and joined them.

Then around 10:15 the fireworks were launched.

I actually preferred this to the pirate night party as the music was far better than what is played during pirate night. The band was as good as any you see in any club. The atmosphere was really fun and relaxed - you could see the Disney characters were having a lot of fun doing whatever moves they wanted.

Kind of reminded me of the old deck parties that DCL used to do.

And how's this for the Disney "magic".....on our last night we were heading north towards Florida and got to see the launch of the space shuttle. The captain told us during the day that we could see the launch at midnight off the starboard side. We were about 70 miles south but since it was night time and the weather was partly cloudy we could see the entire launch.

It was mind blowing....we could see an orange ball lift off from the ground and go straight into the sky. Amazing.

Hi
I am so jazzed about our Christmas Cruise. I am currently listed on the roll call list for the fish exchange, thanks to my daughter Michele. We are counting down. This will be the first time that Mother, daughter and grandduaghter ever went anywhere-let alone a cruise. We have cruised Disney with the family but never just the ladies. Yeah! I am sure you all will recognize us on the ship, our voices are distinctive and we get loud when we are excited!
Bye for now! See you in 109 days!:yay::dance3:

Sorry, but I think you might have posted on the wrong thread. This thread is for the August 2006 cruise we took 3 years ago.

So I got back from my cruise yesterday. Went on the 3 day on the Disney Wonder and it was great.

Christiaan was the CD, got to talk to him and he was funny and great this cruise still best thing was as the Castaway Club party thing in waveband. When they were asking where we would want to go, most people were saying NY. So christiaan came up with a dream cruise that would go to hong kong, tokyo, paris, barcelona, California, pananma, go stop and pick us meaning people who were saying ny up then castaway cay.158 day cruise lol. Pikey hosted all the adult activities in wavebands and him and DJ Frankie were great hosting together deff are both great, amazing, funny guys. During the Eco Quiz on deck 9 and 10 one day they were hiding different places to see if the camera man could find them both did great at hiding at different times. Pikey went to hide in the pizza place for a while. Frankie was hiding on deck 10 with a trash can blocking him lol. Oh boy, they both make fun of being short lol. And during Krazy Karaoke when some one was singging they went on stage and bring out different cards for people watching to do like scream, clap, etc. Then after Krazy Karaoke ended Single Ladies came on and Pikey and another guest on the Wonder had a dance off to the song. The rest of the cruise staff was great as well. Marc and Jen remembered me from the Magic and then the new ones I met for the first time were Chance, Steve, Chris, and some others who were amazing and great as well made the cruise amazing. Can't wait to go in December, only got 100 days to go:lmao:

Happy to hear you had another great cruise Julia!!! :thumbsup2

I have my family booked for a 4 day cruise on the Wonder in April 2010. Just so happens that we are scheduled to be at Castaway Cay on the day of my 55th birthday and I can't think of a better place to spend my birthday!!! :thumbsup2

Julia, glad you had a great cruise. One thing about the Wonder cruises is that you have the CMs all to yourselves as the passengers don't interact as much with the crew as they do on the Magic.

DCL needs to clone Christiaan so he can be CD for every cruise.

Andy......how typical DCL that you will be celebrating your birthday on CC. I'm envious thinking about how you will be relaxing at Serenity Bay with a cool drink in your hand on that day.

I got to spend the whole day at Serenity Bay as both kids did the teen wild side at CC. All I can say is....:cloud9:

passengers seemed to interact with CMs on the Wonder and my cruise, lot's of return cruisers doing bounceback deal. So lots of people knew Pikey or other crew on the ship, not many people were really talking with christiaan it seemed just like a Hello or your doing a good job lol so we got a long convo at the time we were talking with him. Only time I didn't see people interacting much was at the castaway club party thing in wavebands. So I got to talk to Frankie a little bit more which was good got to know him and some other crew as well.

Not us, Alaska isn't high on our priority list.

Any word on what the Magic is doing in 2011 - was the news entirely on the Wonder?

Magic is going back to the Med for the summer of 2011.

Don't think Alaska will be doable for us in 2011.

That's too bad.....looks like we'll be skipping DCL entirely in 2011.

It's a shame that the first new DCL ship is taking over the 3/4 night cruises. To be honest, after having done/will do 5 Wonder cruises we've tired of Nassau. And back-to-back 3/4 night cruises just doesn't compare to a 7-night cruise.

I think the Dream is doing 3/4/5 and 7 night cruises in the summer on 2011. From what I gather, more news about the Dream is going to be announced from New York City on October 29th, via another live webcast.

Thanks, Andy.....I knew you'd have some information. :goodvibes Its funny....there's more excitement about where the Wonder is going than the fact that there will be a brand new DCL ship launched at the same time.

Don't understand why DCL continues to favor the western Med.....I would seriously consider Greece/Turkey. By weird coincidence I was at my local photo store printing out all the pics from my cruise and someone had picked up an order of something like 500 photos - all from a vacation in Greece and turkey. She did it all land-based, not a cruise. She said it was absolutely amazing.

Transfered my hold date to the Aug 9th, 2011 Alaska cruise :cool1:

Have a WONDERful time Ed!!! ;)

We just ran into a DISfriend of ours at Walmart this afternoon, she told us her and her husband will be using their DVC points to go on one of the Alaskan cruises for their 25th wedding anniversary at the end of August 2011. I believe they will be on the August 23rd sailing.
