JEFF: I am glad that I was in the right place at the right time also! It was such a treat to be able to help in that way.

Joyce

Glad to hear your back safe.

The video you took of my family walking up to the Roy suite for the first time was very cool. Something I will treasure forever. I can't thank you enough.

I want to post the video to the web, but we are in the middle of moving. We just closed 08/30 on our new home and will be closing on our old home on 9/15 so we have done nothing but move stuff to the new home since we got back from vacation.

Once we get settled I will get some time to post photos and that video.

I can't believe we're doing this again! :rotfl:

I got something done and wanted to share.......... :goodvibes This is a pic. of my photo mat that I had signed. When I first got it back I was wondering what I was going to do with the empty space, :confused3 I used some of the stickers that came with the scrapbook kit and I think it came out pretty well.

Ok I have an important question for the computer whizes... I am in the market for a new laptop.. or NOTEBOOK as they are now called..

1.. any brand to choose over the other
2... whats the difference between professional windows and regular windows.
3.. what other specs should I look for beside complete wireless/ WIFI capable at least 1 gb... Mind you we already have 5 PC's. 2 are XP one is ME and 2 are 98 so why not add another one to replace my ME laptop.. I will mostly use this for work so i need spreedsheets, many windows opened at once..

Any help is appreciated..
Thanks in advance

Windows XP Pro is designed to be used in a "work" environment. It has great networking capability. Since I am a programmer and develop corporate web applications I use Windows XP Pro because it comes with Internet Information Services (built-in web server) so I can test development websites on my laptop before posting them live. For the home user XP Home edition is a good choice.
Here is a Windows Comparison Chart

Many new computers come with internal wireless capability instead of having to slide in a separate wireless card so that shouldn’t be an issue, but always a good question to ask just to make sure.

The three big factors you should be aware of is the processing speed of the computer, memory (RAM) and the hard drive space. To save money manufactures will often cutback on one of the three. I have seen laptops with 60 or 80 GB (Gigabytes) of hard drive space, but only a 256 MB of memory. If you are running Windows with any kind of software that requires a lot of memory like a photo editing program (PhotoShop) I would get at least 512 MB, but 1 GB memory will save you a lot time because more memory means your computer will run faster so if you can spend the extra money for the memory then do it. The processing (CPU) speeds are usually high enough that they are not a concern, but just a number to be aware of and ask about.

In many cases with laptops it is a comfort level that you need to have. Some people don’t like touch pads in place of a mouse. I have used IBM laptops that have an “eraserhead” in the center of the keyboard which I didn’t mind, but my wife couldn’t use. Focus on how you will use the computer and if it is comfortable. Look at the locations for commonly used items like the USB ports, CD/DVD Drives.

Another minor item is how you plug the unit in. Some AC adapters are large and very heavy to carry around. Take a quick look to see if it is the size of a brick or something you could easily stuff into your carrying case. Also ask if you can get an extra AC adapter. Often I leave the AC adapter plugged in where I normally use the laptop and keep an extra one in my bag when I want to take it with me.

I hope this helps,

Jeff

Peeking in from break... :3dglasses

Well I made a work-place faux pas just a little while ago... I am not going to explain it here because evidently it's something that would be insulting/upsetting to almost every other woman that I work with, and possibly many people reading this, so I won't say what it was about. But now I really have to remember to just keep my mouth shut about certain topics, and this topic was something OTHER than religion or politics. LOL :rolleyes1

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great weekend!! :sunny:

P.S. If word gets out around the office about what I said I'm afraid they'll come and hunt me down with axes and torches like they did to Frankenstein!! :scared:

Wait...that'd make ME Frankenstein!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Terry - sorry about your faux pas. I hope the rest of your day is better.

Terry: Sorry you feel that way. Just so you know I wouldn't be insulted or upset. :cool1: Everyone has a right to there own opinion on things..........On the bright side today is Friday and by Monday it will be old news. :teeth:

Welcome Back Joyce!!!

Next time you talk, or e-mail Katharine, tell her Angelina said "HI!!!"

Andy,
I will. I know that she had such a fun time with her (and others).

Angelina sounds like she is going to have a great year!

Have a fabulous day!
Joyce

Jeff, thanks for the insight.. I already have one laptop.. and I know what you mean about the weights of them. Mine is luckily a lighter one now..

I am looking at a Dell notebook now.. It will be used for my business. I really dont need all the media programs loaded in that one since our Living room one has all that fully loaded for the kids to load pics and media movies and songs..

I just wanted to know some essestionals that are needed today since it has been about 3 -4 yrs since my last PC purchases when we bought 2 XPs.. now I am told there is a replacement for the XPs coming out in JANUARY.. If I buy a pc now.. I can get the update at a 1/2price cost.. hmm should I wait for the new program and see what bugs it has??
Duo core is also something new. And thanks for the tip on the xtra power cord. I never thought of that reason...

TERRY.. sorry for the faux pas.. now I am intrigued as to what it was..lol :confused3

Andy,.. how is the roof coming along??

TINA>... thanks for the sun.. FINALLY we have some sun :sunny: . We went out cruising in the MUSTANG with the top down.. it was great for a change..

Any other advice.. I am still open to suggestions for computer laptops please.!!!

Doreen

I am tired, but in a good way. France was so much fun. I took my best friend with me and we played for a solid week!!! Two moms just getting away from the craziness of family life....it was so great!

Katharine will be there until next June doing a year in high school. We found an exchange program that finds her a host family, checks them out and has a 24 hour number for her and for us to make sure that if we have any questions or problems, we can get in touch with someone. So far, no need for it! Hopefully she will call home tomorrow so that we can hear all about her first week at school! I am dying to know how things went!

Thanks for aksing!
