Ok, out of curiosity I decided to see if Barb had posted her latest news about her DH's surgery out on the Community Board, or elsewhere. I didn't go back too far, but I did see as far back as July 20th, which is about a week and a half ago.

NO POSTS ABOUT HER DH.

So that means that these "people" are watching our thread to see if/when she mentions her DH and his surgery.

That's just sad! I would think they'd have better things to do with their time. :confused3

Laura: you go girl ;)

I hope Andy made out OK with his surgery today.

Andy, we are all thinking about you! :grouphug:

Did anyone else get something in the mail today from the Disney Visa people regarding a Free Companion Air ticket? I haven't read the fine print yet, but from what I read quickly, it says that we'd get 2 airfares for $280. That's not too bad at all! And possibly it may be the key to getting DH back to Disney World sooner than later. :teeth:

Sorry for the mess - and yes this is the only place where I dare to post regarding DHs surgery. I do need a place to vent.
As said I asked DH again this morn if he wants me to cancel/postpone and he again said no. IF it comes down to cancelling at the last minute it will be OUR choice and I will be ready to loose any points/cash as necessary. Believe me there has been plenty of talk btwn us regarding his surgery and recovery. If I need to postpone, cancel or cut short the vacation it will be done.
That being said - DH, a good family friend, his brother and I just came back from signing a will, power of attorney and trust for DS. All is now legally covered.

Andy - any word? How did the surgery go?

Darlene - how are you and Stan today?

Bev - glad your mom's back home

Terry - I hope some day soon we do get a chance to meet

Nope, not me. I was reading this thread today because my family is taking a cruise in August of 2006. I don't know "Barb", don't know about the cancelled cruise that y'all seem to know about.

Just agreeing with Lessa...I can't imagine going on a trip with a DH undergoing major cancer surgery and taking my child away from her father at such a time. That's all.

Yet, you felt compelled enough to comment about someone you dont know, about something you dont know all the details about... becasue you were researching August cruises for a freind....

Ok.... thanks for clearing it up.

No - not for a friend, for myself. Where did I say I was researching for a friend?

I wouldn't say I felt compelled, just making a comment.

Andy: Thinking about you :grouphug: hope things are o.k :wizard: :wizard:

Ed: Have a safe trip! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Terry: Sending PM

Bev: Sending PM

Barb: Sending PM

Just a quick word--

Anyone is welcome to post on any thread here. And let's keep comments respectful.

Back to your cruising chatter... :sunny:

Tina and Bev: Got your PMs. thanks ;) :goodvibes

Kathy: Thanks for stopping in here, I was actually going to PM you later on. :) Obviously this entire message board and web site is open to the public, by the generosity of Peter Werner, and the sponsors. I was merely asking, as nicely as I could, for people not to make mean comments that are out of context to our cruising group. I honestly never realized that (apparently) many people "cruise" our thread in search of something to comment on, and for which they have no real or valid reason for doing so. I just don't understand people who can't "live and let live", or just can't keep their mouths (and fingers!) shut when they have something that's not nice to say.

Nothing that was posted by those people had any real value or merit to them. They were not being supportive, they were not giving any real-life advice, {even if in opposition what Barb and her DH had decided upon regarding the vacation}, and they certainly contributed nothing as far as this being a Cruise Meets thread. I know that one of the "rules" here on the DIS is that people should *try* and keep the threads and posts relative to whichever board it happens to be on. Now, a Cruise Meets thread is very subjective, of course, but it's been extremely friendly, civil, and supportive because of all of the people here who post and who are going on this cruise. So hopefully it can be understood why some of us have reacted the way we have, when seeing posts that are contrary to the theme and feelings of our thread here. We seem to have become a very loyal bunch, and for good reason.

Anyone and everyone is welcome here, they certainly don't need my, or anyone else's, permission to do so. And if posts appear here that contain meanness and nastiness, I will not stoop (way down) to the level at which they reside. I have never said anything on this message board in the last 4 1/2 years, that has not been respectful, even while disagreeing with someone.

So, Thanks Kathy, to you and all the moderators and Webmasters, for taking on the jobs that you do. :) I know that a lot of the time, it can't be too much fun. :earboy2:

Bev: Your PM is Full Please Clean it so I can reply........Thank you

Checking in to see if there is any word on Andy.

And from someone who has posted way too much personal info on this thread, I just want to say how easy it is to feel comfortable with my cruisin' friends. You tend to let your guard down and share and vent, forgetting that this is not a closed forum and any ol' anybody can lurk around. Reality check for me.

Even so, I will continue to support my friends on this thread or through PM's. And if it makes me feel better to share, then by golly, I'll share.

Try to remember that we are only getting a peekhole glimpse into someone else's life with all the complications and uniqueness associated with individuals and their families. Judgements are easily made and usually wrong. Walk in my shoes and then tell me how they feel.

Update on Stan - A port will be installed under his collarbone in Sep after the Repo cruise. He will start chemotherapy 9/12, his 60th birthday. Somehow I see that as a good sign. (Don't judge me for grasping at any positive thought!) There is a lot of technical/medical stuff we heard today. The main gist of it all is that without treatment the cancer will grow and spread. With treatment we have a chance of remission. The doctor used words like durable remission, meaning for a good length of time. (There I go again!) So, we do the treatment and pray.

Sandy goes to Dupont Hospital on Wed for the Cystic Fibrosis test.

Love you guys! :grouphug:
Darlene

Hey gang:

Are any of you interested in an email loop? If case any of you don't know what it is, it's a "loop" of emails in which a group of people are included; everyone sends an email to everyone at the same time, and when you want to reply, you hit "Reply All" and then your message gets sent to everyone. It sounds much more complicated than it is. lol It's private, and open only to those who I, or whoever wants to start it, allows in. At this point, it'd be open to all of us August 19th, 2006 cruisers, and any new people after they've been around a while and we feel they're "real" and not just outsiders looking to make nasty comments.

It would also be a safe place in which we can share the personal details of our lives; much of which many of us have already done here, but as we can see now, we are making ourselves vulnerable to comments and attacks by people who don't know us and who are not even on our cruise.

Of course we would still keep this thread alive and strong, as it always has been! :) The loop would just be an addition.

If anyone is interested, send me a PM or email me, and I will put together a list, and then send out the first email of the loop :) Send me your DIS name and email address.

(OK and if this sounds like a dumb idea, don't be afraid to tell me so! LOL I can take it!) :teeth: :earboy2:

Darlene!! You have no idea how happy I am see the news about Stan! :cheer2: :cheer2: Hey, if the doctor said it, it's not grasping at straws!! And I definitely agree that it's a GOOD thing that they want to start the chemo! It just might be the thing to get that cancer into remission!!! I am so excited for all of you. I hope you all have the best time ever on the repo cruise THIS MONTH! :sunny: :boat: :sunny: Yes, it's August, and your big cruise is this month!!!!!!

Best wishes for Sandy and the test on Wednesday! I hope it comes out negative. Is she still having symptoms?? I didn't realize that Cystic Fibrosis could show up "later" in life, and not right from birth. Please let us know how the test goes on Wednesday. We will be thinking of her, and all of you. :grouphug:

Darlene: :grouphug: To you and your family That is good news about Stan. :cheer2:  :cheer2:  Have a great cruise and hope all goes well afterwards. All the best to Sandy. :wizard: :wizard:

Terry: Think your on to to something :rolleyes1

Bev: Was able to send PM :teeth:

Terry: I like being Number 1 :rotfl2:

Andy: How come you haven't checked in yet? :confused3 :wizard: :wizard:

I'm checking in now!!!

I arrived home around 1:30 this afternoon and went staright to bed, I woke up around 7:30 this evening and had a lite bite to eat. So far, so good, I haven't had to take any pain medication!!!

I have to be on crutches for at least the first seven days, I will also be out of work for at least the next eight weeks. The surgeon didn't find any tears in the cartilage like he thought he might, but he said my knee had a great deal of arthritis in it. He did a lot of scraping and cleaning of the joint.

I have some ache in the knee, but all in all, I feel rather good. I start PT on Wednesday morning.

I'm still hoping to make the meet at Trail's End on the 19th!!!

Thanks again for all the prayers, good wishes and :wizard: I felt them all working for me today!!!

Terry--I like yuor idea of the e-mail thing, I have been a part of several of them in the past. I'll send you my info.

Good Night All!!!

Andy

Joanna - Oh no! not you too! We'll certainly miss all our LI friends next year BOO HOO!

Barb - Wishing your husband and family all the best. Please ignore what others have to say and do what is best for your family. All any of us can do is our best.

Hi everyone else - Sue, Bev, Ed, Tina, to name a few!!

-Carmen

Andy - thanks for checking in. We were thinking of you all day. Glad to hear all went well. Now take care of that knee!

Darlene - glad you and Stan heard some good news today
Hope your daughter has negative results Wed

Terry,

First, Nicely said. Its a shame people feel they need to jump in and stir things up.

The email loop sounds like a good idea, You can count me in.

Darlene, that does sound like good news from the doc about Stan. Hoping for good news on Sandy's test too.
Thank for the update. All the best to your family.

Andy, thanks for the update. Take it easy , glad to hear there was no tear. Keeping fingers cross that you will be able to make the mini meet.

Andy... thanks for posting an update. Glad to hear things went well.... A bit of advice though... take some pain meds before you need them... when the 'good stuff' wears off.... it could be painful.
