Calling All 8/19/06 Special Western Cruisers! AKA "The Cruisin' Castaways" Part 2

Hello everyone - I'm trying to decide whether to take the 8/19/06 or the 6/24/06 special cruise - while i'd rather use less points and go with the August cruise, I'm afraid to go right in the middle of Hurricane season. The 6/24/06 will use up all my 06 points & most of my 07 points! Has anyone else cruised in August & what do you think?

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

While I cant help you much as the Aug 2006 cruise is my first cruise , let me say we have so far: 56 families, at least 66 cabins, and 222 people going on the Aug 19 cruise. Many have cruised in Aug before so maybe one of then can give you some feedback.

Personally I would say come aboard, if the weather is rough Disney would sail around the storm area. Don't let the thought of Hurricane season stop you.

Good luck in you planning

Glad all went well with the oral surgery. Now all of you need to get some rest!

I just brought home the newest Harry Potter book & audio for Jon. It took till now for the library to get copies of the book! Thats one of the positives for working at the library - we get items first before the public

Hi Barbara,

We cruised with DCL in August 2003 and August 2004, we didn't have any problems with bad weather either year. The cruise after us in August 2004 did have a three day extension to their cruise due to a hurricane that turned out to be the "first" 10 DCL cruise. As Ed said, we have a large number of DIS'ers going on the 8-19-06 cruise. It would be nice to have you join us.

Patient Update:

Angelina is sleeping now, thankfully the pain pill kicked in. She awoke from her earlier nap crying in pain, poor baby. I sat with her for nearly an hour until she fell back to sleep. It's sure tough when you see your kids in such pain, and there's not a whole lot you can do for them. Keep sending happy thoughts her way!!! :goodvibes

Barbara,

We've cruised several times in August and in September and have not had bad weather or had to cancel because of a hurricane. However, there is always that possibility and travel insurance is a good thing to have. Hope you decide to do the 8-19-06 cruise. Our family will be cruising the week before as well so we can welcome you aboard!!

:wizard: For Angelina :)

I hope you are all doing okay today :)

Barbara - I was worried about cruising in August too, but I did lots of research on here and had lots of help and opinions from people which helped me decide that it would be absolutely fine! Thanks guys :goodvibes

I can't wait :)

Thanks!!! We "ALL" greatly appreciate that!!!!! :goodvibes

Angelina is starting to feel better, she is up, on her computer and having chicken broth for dinner. Oh yea, and has starting arguing with her mother, so I know she is feeling better, LOL!!! :rotfl:

Hi everyone,

30 days to our mini dis meet at Trail's End. :Pinkbounc

Andy - here's some PD for Angelina :wizard: :wizard: and you and Hazel. :wizard: :wizard:

Barbarac- I've done atleast 8 cruises around the 8/20 timeframe because that's when the prices drop. We have been between hurricanes while vacationing in Florida but always had pretty good weather on the cruise. Like anything else, it's a chance you take. I'm told the captain will never purposely go into a hurricane and will do whatever it takes to avoid them.
Hope you join our group. It's a great group of people.

Darlene - here's some PD :wizard: :wizard: for Stan and your family.

Hope everyone is fine

Bev ::MickeyMo

Please do not tell me FL is hotter than NE right now! Oh man Im ready to shave my head and dye it lime green!
Honestly though today I made an apt for my haircut Aug 3rd, friend will color it Aug 4th before she leaves on her vacation.
I usually keep it short anyways but after today's heat Im ready to shave it all off! Nothing on the neck at all

Barb,

In Lake Buena Vista, Fl
Its 82 degrees with dew point of 72

In Westport , Ct
Its 79 degreess with dew point of 79 ( and foggy too)

So its more humid here in CT than in Fl.

But either place its Hot at 10 pm
But at least in FL we be at WDW !!!!

Only 14 days to go and I start my drive to WDW. :cool1:

Barb--while you are ready to shave your hair off, I'm ready to have my knee totally replaced. At this point, "if" and I do mean "if" we make it to WDW next month, don't be surpried if you see me in a wheelchair. The pain was so bad last night I could hardly walk from the bedroom to the kitchen, in fact as I was walking through the dining room my knee buckled on me and I had to hold onto a chair to keep from falling down. The appointment I had to see the surgeon this past Monday was postpone until Friday morning, so I will know more then about any pending surgery.

Angelina just woke up, and needs her pain medication. She seems to be doing somewhat better this morning, but her cheeks are still quite swollen. She's a trooper though!!!

I'll check in later, hope everyone has a great day, and try to keep cool!!!

uhoh Andy - not good. Please take care of that knee

Id rather meet you in a wheelchair though than not at all! We'll come visit you at your cabin if necessary. Take out food, bring you iced tea, etc. We can make a fire right there, right?

Glad Angelina's feeling a little better. Personally I lucked out and never got my wisdom teeth (I was never wise enough-lol)

Thank you to everyone who answered my post!! I was amazed at your quick responses. At this point I'm going to try to book the 6/24 on Monday and if the 8/19 is available when I am able to book through DVC I think I'll switch to that cruise - i'll save almost 200 DVC points if I go in August. Hopefully there will be a cabin left for me!

isn't your husband having major surgery? Will he have someone to bring him food and iced tea while you're busy taking care of VerandahMan at Disneyworld? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Barb,

Enjoy your mini vacation

Only 13 days to go before I start my 3 week vacation :cool1:

gepetto - of course DH will be well taken care of while DS & I are away.
We wouldnt be going if he wasnt. We still have to see how the surgery goes as the Castaway Cruisers are well aware - thanks for your concern about my DH
