Caller-ID question Do you call back?

If you have a missed call on your home phone or cell phone( by looking at your caller-id) that you do not recognize do you call that number and ask if someone there called you?

Backstory:

Tongiht I "thought" I dialed my SIL's cell number. After hearing the male voicemail on the other end of the line, I realized I had dialed the wrong number so I simply hung up. About two hours later my phone rings, and a male voice says "Did you call me?"

um...well...by this time I had forgotten about the previous call so I said "excuse me"...He repeated "Did you call me?, Someone from your house called me and it was on my caller-id". I then remembered my earlier misdial and told him that I had dialed the wrong number earlier.

I do look through my caller-id and see strange numbers sometimes, but I never call them back figuring that
1. If it was important they would have left a message.
2. It could have been a Wrong number.
3. If they really need to get in touch with me they will call back.

So do you call back numbers you dont recongnize and ask if/why they called?

No, I don't, for all the same reasons you listed. I have a machine, with my cell phone on the outgoing message, so if they need me bad enough, they'll leave a message or call my cell.

No, I don't. But really....if the number is on your caller ID then obviously someone from that number called you. Numbers don't just randomly appear on your caller ID. It always makes me giggle when I hear someone do that. Kind of a "here's your sign" thing.

No, not if they did not leave a message and I don't know who it is. If it's a friend or family, I will call them back.

No, I don't call back but I have dialed wrong numbers and had someone call me back too.

No. And like a PP I think it is weird when people do.

However, I too, have had people call me back when I've mistakenly dialed. I hung up on a wrong answering machine once and that guy called several times to yell at me.

I do call back if its on my work phone, as someone may have gotten the number from a business card or a referral from my office phone.

personal phone, never. Sometimes it is someone trying to sell stuff.

But I have called back when someone got the wrong number, didn't realize it, and left a message for someone else to call them back. Don't know why they didn't realize they had the wrong number when our voice mail said "this is the XXXXXXX residence" , but I felt bad for them waiting for a call back that they wouldn't be getting.

I don't answer numbers I don't recognize but if I do some Googleing and don't see the number reported as a marketing or sales call I would call it back. If it was a wrong number just tell me, no big deal.

Oh, I forgot - I will try to determine the caller by using a reverse lookup website

No, I don't do that and it drives me crazy when other people do it. This happens to me at work and what makes me want to pull my hair out is that I've left a message! Honestly, everything I needed to tell you was in that voicemail--listen to it.

I will go online and use a reverse directory to see who the heck it was but I don't call them back.

I don't, but my sister does. It's so weird. I will only call someone back if it's family, like my mom or DH.
