Called MS for the Members Homecoming and MS is advising DVC to............. look into the disney collection resorts, like GF or POLY if we would like to join the members homecoming,
i said Hello.... that is using more points then i should have to, i think dvc didnt think this completely thru when planning the MH, i even asked about paying cash and ms said, all the dvc resorts are sold out for those days. i asked about a waitlist, again ms said the waitlist is so long, and they will be selling tickets but not for much longer. i didnt want to buy my ticket if i cant get a room, and i wanted to use points, that i need to use, that my renter backed out and left me with the points to use.

i understand, that if i wanted to go before i should have made the arrangements early, but i still think dvc should have thought this thru about the available of rooms for their members.

who do i write an email to bring this to there attention?:(

Well, it sounds like the Member Homecoming is a big success after all. Just like people expressed dismay at the cost of the Member Cruise but it sold out.

I'm sorry the resorts are sold-out but that may have something to do with why they made the price so high. It would be impossible for all members to attend the event. If they made it "free" or very reasonable, there would be thousands of disappointed members.

They stopped having the member golf tournament because the size of DVC left too many people disappointed that they couldn't participate. I've heard rumblings that they may start this up again.

WDWStar -- I'm particularly sorry you can't get a room. You just can't seem to catch a break at all the last few days!

I think it was bad planning to - but remember the idea is the opening of SSR and that day is fixed.

you can use the codes on mousesavers and get the Pop century for $74 a night.

when do you have to use your points by?

can you bank them?

can you re rent them?

there are some good deals off-site - but I bring my cat (I know pretty silly) and when you add in all the extra charges for him - plus the extra charges period - then it is just a little more for him to stay at FW and me to stay at PC.

my fear is the transportation - considering that some of the stuff will happen after the park is closed....Onsite you are guaranteed a ride back to your resort - even if it is security - offsite - you bring your car. I am driving - but I like the safe and security of staying on-site. Especially when going solo.

well, i started with 9 points to use by aug. 31 2004, and by the time i thought was a great trade, and the renter decided to finally tell me after i borrowed another 19 points to make the ressies that she hasnt closed yet and cant transfer the points back,
since then i have been offer partial of the points but then im still stuck with the rest of the points, plus going from one bad rental into another rental, is hard. if im going to rent them i want to rent them all, so idont have any left, oh, yeah, when i cancel the 2 ressies, the borrowed points will retain my 2003 use year, and this renter knew that, but no loss on her part , they way she looks at it, so now i have points to use before the end of aug. and still have to rent the points that i needed that i didnt get because the renter back out.

so i decide what better way to use the points and go to homecoming, now i cant even get a room and im not going to rent points to stay at a disney collection, because dvc didnt think about running out of available rooms,

and i dont want to pay cash, that will defeat the purpose of using the points.

:(

Actually, if there are lots of tickets remaining, but the DVC properties are full, wouldn't that mean that many members that typically vacation at this popular tiime AREN'T buying into Member Homecoming?

So Disney has the DVC resorts at capacity, but still need to sell more tickets to insure a hefty profit. That second mailing to all members couldn't have been cheap with printing and postage costs for 70,000+ members...

Just another take...

Yes, your right that is what im thinking, dvc didnt think this thru, not only do you have dvc members staying because either they already havd ressies before the invites , and the members that are going but not going to MH, and now members that are going because of the MH, is which all three cat hhas a right to stay at the dvc resorts, just a bad plan, i emailed ms , im sure it will say first come first serve, tough luck, good luck next time .......

but i didnt say all that to dvc when i was buying, im not asking for much just a better, reasonable suggestion where other members should try to book a room.
::yes::

I see your headed to Vero, why not either add on a night or upgrade your room, that way you could atleast use the points? If I understand your problem right ?

yep, already thought of that, i thought a 1 bed or 2 bed for 1 night, vb sold out, all the dvc resorts sold out except of course fri or sat 2 bed 106 points, i would be short 56 points, lol.lol. i cant win.

the definitely write to MS - tell them they lost money (the price of your ticket) because you couldn't get a DVC resort...

I know because of the deadline on buying tickets that you can't sit and wait for the wait list to come through - right?

There are several types of discount codes out right now that you can use to book a room at other WDW resorts. We got AKL for $134 a night for MH. We have used up all of our points and we don't mind staying somewhere besides DVC. Unless you are dead set on staying at a DVC resort, why not try out somewhere else and pay cash? Just a suggestion;)

Just got a call from Jackie and she was very nice and pleasant, she said she just received my email and she apologies for no rooms be available, when the first invite came out the rooms booked very fast and when the second invite came out there were few rooms, but they are now book sold at the dvc resorts and there are other disney resorts that we can stay in but dvc is not offering any discount at this time but will look into the sitiuation for next time.

that was very nice of her to call, i didnt expect a call just a little email back.
thank you jackie!:sunny:

Wdwstar, I'm sorry to hear you cannot get a room at a DVC resort. It's nice like you said that Jackie called you back though!! I am one of those who booked my trip last summer 11 months out before hearing of MH and don't plan to attend as I have guests with me. It would have been nice if MS had announced this PRIOR to the 11 month window so people would have had adequate time to plan their trips at their home resorts. I even managed to switch to another resort at the 7 month window. Once again, MS had an idea but failed to provide advance notice--like the cruise for me I didn't receive my mailing until AFTER the ressies were made on that weekend!!

Good luck with your point dilemma!!

Glad to hear you did get a response. In person and promptly is a good sign for things to come at DVC.

If you want to still try for the MH, you might consider staying at one of the moderates. The standard room is 15 points, 17 for the waterview. Of course, then you have to lay out another $300 for the event!

I thought I saw a post somewhere that they anticipated 2,000 families for this event. There aren't 2000 DVC rooms at WDW so they must have expected some to be locals or stay at non-DVC.

I'm doing the math...

2,000 DVC families buying MH tickets + fewer than 2,000 DVC rooms = farschtunktenuh planning. (That's Yiddish for "stinky.")

No wonder DVC just got a new General Manager!
