I just received a call from Jiko confirming a ADR that we have from the 22nd. She wanted to know if we were planning on coming. I said yes and she said thanks and good bye. Why would they be calling?? Should I be worried that there is a problem? I tried to call back and the number does not accept incoming calls.

That is odd. Perhaps they have a large party they are trying to accommodate, or some VIPs.

I've never heard of that happening before. Perhaps there was some type of screw-up on their side and they are looking to free up some ADRs.

:thumbsup2 I would not be concerned, they are probably going to be busy and are trying to get a jump on ADR's. I am sure some guests do not show or do not bother to cancel. Have a great meal!;)

Odd--I've never received a direct call from a WDW restaurant. Doubt that they are "just checking" for the heck of it--most likely some large group or gathering and they will be struggling to accomodate them.

We have a very nice restaurant close to home that calls a day prior to our reservation to remind us and to see if we're coming. The reason is, reservations are tough to come by and if we're not going, someone else will. Perhaps, you're visiting Jiko at a very busy time. I wouldn't worry about it. Go and have a great dinner.

Jiko called me prior to my 9/24 reservation. I think they are just confirming that you are still coming.

My mom got a call too so I called back for her and talked to the same woman. She asked if it was for Jiko or Boma. After she confirmed they were still coming, I asked why they had call-- since this has never happened before. She started to say something about a system being installed but then quickly backtracked to say that they had just started calling people about 3 weeks ago to confirm that they were still coming. Very strange.

Uh oh! I have an ADR for Jiko's Dec 9th. I have a phone number for my house that I never use. In fact that phone is not even plugged in. I just have to have a land line for my home security system. I always use my cell phone to make and receive calls. The number I gave WDW is my home number that I never use. There is no way anyone can get in touch with me with that number. I don't guess I'll have a problem will I? They can't leave a message on that line.

Just call back and give them the correct number. I'd certainly want (and expect) Disney to be able to contact me if there were any problems.

This isn't odd. There's lots of really nice restaurants that call to confirm.

We got a call the day before our ressie at V&As to confirm.

But it is odd at WDW. V&A is the only restaurant that has ever called to confirm reservations and we've been dining at WDW since the early 80s. Mr. and Mrs. Uncleromulus have been doing so even longer I believe.

But maybe some of the more upscale restaurants are following the queue of V&A's. That makes sense.

Perhaps but I doubt it.

More likely something unusual is going on at Jiko...perhaps as others have guessed, they're very busy that night. It is Thanksgiving in the USA.

Oh, no...actually this is an old thread! They were dining there Oct. 22 I guess.

Hopefully everything turned out fine!:goodvibes

Even if it's an old post though, it's good to know if there are new policies and ways of doing things at WDW restaurants. Maybe the OP can let us know if she had any problems or figured out any reasons they might have called other than to confirm.
