My fiance and I are spending an adult's night out with my bestfriend and his wife to celebrate his return from Iraq. We have never eaten at the California Grill, but I got us PS for Sunday night (hopefully we'll get to see Wishes). Any suggestions on what to order? My fiance and I are open to almost anything, but my buddy and his wife are pretty picky.

Please be sure to extend my thanks to this brave individual for his service to our country. I wish I could be there to do it in person.

the pork or filet is awsome. I have never had a bad dinner at CG.

Slapster I'll be sure to tell him. He actually is going back end of next month for another 6 months. We are all grateful for him, and those like him. I hope he enjoys the meal, he has been eating MRE's the last 6 months.

The CG is very receptive to substitutions. My DH & I are picky too so we just ordered mashed potatoes with our chicken & filet dishes & that was no problem at all. I also asked if I could substitute the peppermint ice cream that came with the warm chocolate cake during the holidays & the waitress said "oh I suppose you want VANILLA with it?" It was said tongue in cheek & really funny actually since she had us figured out pretty well by then. It was an awesome dessert by the way. We loved CG & will definitely be dining there again soon.

My DH is in Iraq now, and I just got an update that most of the MREs they have are the steak and lobster ones. I guess the guys are really hoping for chicken one of these days.

Anyway, I was going to suggest the filet, but he may not want the beef. There is a flatbread appetizer that is pretty standard...tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil...your friends might enjoy. And as the above poster suggested, do not be afraid to ask for substitutions. The restaurant and its service staff are especially accommodating. DSis enjoyed the chicken entree she had when we were there.

Please wish your friend well and have a great dinner!

Be sure to post a review. I've got ADRs there for late May and I'm really looking forward to it - hear so many raves about the place!

One yummy CG meal:

-sushi
-tamarin filet
-valrona chocolate lava cake with ice cream

I am dreaming of this now!! pixiedust:

Wow, are there really steak and lobster MREs? A lot has changed since I was discharged on '93!

I'll definetly post some reviews. We have ADRs for Whispering Canyon Cafe for lunch, Chef Mickey's for breakfast, and Boma's for dinner so far. I think we are just as excited about the restaurants as we are the parks.

I really enjoyed the flatbreads and the filet with tamarid sauce. The updated menu only shows one type of flatbread but when I went there were a few more interesting choices, hopefully they still offer them and the menu is just incomplete.

This is just what I've been told. However, the M+Ms are really stale. How can that be right? The steak and lobster are okay, but the M+Ms aren't?? :confused3

To the OP, the desserts are really great at California Grill, so if your friend has been eating stale M+Ms, he should be able to adequately satisfy his sweet-tooth...if he has room.

We are looking forward to our first meal at CG so I'm sorry I can't make any recommendations, but it is fun to hear everyone's suggestions. I am just booking my ADRs through AKL concierge CMs and they told me I had to leave my credit card to make an ADR at CG. It isn't a big deal but I hadn't read that anywhere regarding this restaurant. Has anyone else been asked to make their CG ADR with their credit card? Just curious.

Yes, last fall the CG began requiring credit card deposits/holds for reservations.

To the Op, what time is your ressie? If u want the window seats for viewing Wishes, you might want a ressie when they open at 5:45pm. Otherwise, it would be v difficult to get the windows as they are immensely popular and the folks don't leave until after the firework.

California Grill is one of our favorite places to eat at WDW. On our last visit this past December I had the pork tenderloin and my wife had oak fired beef filet. They were both excellent, so tender you could cut them with your fork. The polenta with the pork is outstanding also. We always start on dinners here with one of there fantastic flatbreads.

California Grill is our favorite restaurant. When we were there in April last year for my 50th birthday we had the best waiter his name is Ron. We got talking to him about our trip and told him it was supposed to be just my husband and I but we changed our minds because we had just found out our son might be in Iraq for our next family vacation coming up this june and he will be so we are glad we took him.. Ron's nephew had just come back and he really appriciates our soldiers so if you can try and request him you wont be sorry. Thank your friend for keeping our country safe and have a great dinner.

Our PS time is for an hour prior to Wishes, is that early enough to view the fireworks, since so many people stay to watch them?
