Is there a good time to go - in reference to the fireworks? For instance, do you want to be there eating during the fireworks or be done with dinner by the time the fireworks start?

I have early reservations for our first night but thinking I might have to move the time back and just trying to figure out the logistics for the fireworks etc. Since it is our first night (1st trip) I know the kids will be so excited to see them I don't want them to miss it due to poor planning on my part.

We planned our Cali Grill meal to coordinate with Wishes and it was totally worth it. Wishes was at 9:00 that night and our dinner reservation was for 7:30. We were just starting dessert when the fireworks started so we decided to stay in our seats and we could still see everything. While viewing from the observation deck is probably more fun, we don't regret our decision. I don't think there is a bad seat in that place. Hope you are able to change your reservation. Have a great time.

Don't forget you can also go back to the California Grill that same night once your meal if finished to watch Wishes, because all you need to do is show a Cast Memember on the 2nd floor check-in your reciept from that evening.

Either way you will still be able to see the fireworks. If you happen to be in mid-meal when they begin, just get up (with about 3/4 of the rest of the restaurant) go out on the deck, watch the fireworks, then resume your meal. The wait staff at CG are well tuned in to the need to see the fireworks and almost always pace the meal accordingly.
We usually make reservations for an hour before the fireworks, but by the time we are seated, etc we are almost always in mid-meal when the fireworks begin.

If you have an earlier reservation, I'd keep it. People who are finishing their meals around the time the fireworks start tend to not leave as they want to view the fireworks. So, people with 8-9pm reservations end up waiting. I've read this has happened to others, and this has been our experience (we waited an hour past our ADR time). Of course, like PPs have said, you can always return to the Cali Grill to view the fireworks if your reservation is much earlier, and if you're mid-meal, it's perfectly fine to get up and go out on the observation deck.
